Regent Expands Degree Offerings in Artificial Intelligence, Education, Pastoral Counseling, and Accounting for Spring 2027
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept. 8, 2026) — Regent University is pleased to announce the addition of 13 new programs and concentrations to its Spring 2027 curriculum, including two degree programs, 10 concentrations, and one graduate certificate.
“Regent is always seeking to carry out its mission through our innovative and timely curriculum,” said William Hathaway, Ph.D., Provost of Regent University. “Our new degrees engage cutting areas of need, such as cultivating applied AI competencies. Our new concentrations expand the preparation we already offer in areas like pastoral counseling, education, or accounting, to equip our graduates with critical skills responding to trauma, enhancing teaching effectiveness, and addressing addiction work and human conflict. These expanded offerings are aimed at equipping our graduates with relevant, in-demand skills to be salt and light in a needy world.”
The following programs and concentrations will be available beginning with the Spring 2027 semester:
New Degree Programs
Apply psychological principles to teaching, learning, and assessment in schools, colleges, and organizations. Study cognitive development, motivation, assessment, and social-emotional learning within a Christian worldview.
Combine a rigorous conceptual foundation with a Christian perspective and hands-on application, and develop the skills needed to guide the strategic and responsible use of AI across a range of professional contexts.
New Concentrations
Build on what you’ve already accomplished and earn a master’s degree that advances your teaching career. Choose from a wide range of subject-specific elective clusters to focus your remaining coursework on the area where you teach or where you want to grow.
Become an equipped K-12 teacher, instructional coach, intervention specialist, or curriculum leader with the knowledge and tools to design learning environments that are safe, responsive, and academically effective for all students.
Explore the neurobiology of trauma, schoolwide systems for safety and belonging, crisis response, and professional resilience so that you can lead meaningful changes in learning environments across diverse educational settings.
Without an undergraduate degree in accounting, build the accounting acumen needed for advanced coursework in financial reporting, taxation, auditing, ERP systems, and data analysis, gaining a clear, intentional transition into graduate-level accounting study.
Prepare for post-secondary faculty roles, graduate program leadership, and positions at national literacy organizations. Using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods, design and publish original studies at the highest level of scholarly rigor.
Gain the biblically grounded counseling tools needed to walk alongside people struggling with substance abuse, process addictions, and related behavioral challenges. Prepare for roles in recovery ministry, behavioral health, peer support, and crisis intervention.
Bring people together using biblically grounded mediation skills. Combine pastoral counseling foundations with specialized training in negotiation, general mediation, and family mediation, serving as a peacemaker in settings both inside and outside the church.
Gain the knowledge and practical tools to serve effectively across criminal justice contexts. Combine the pastoral counseling core with legal and policy coursework in juvenile law, international trafficking, immigration, and criminal law.
Become a pastor, ministry leader, or helping professional with biblically grounded counseling tools to support couples and families at every stage of life. Prepare to serve as a skilled, compassionate helper in churches, nonprofits, and community settings.
Provide calm, compassionate support when individuals and families are at their most vulnerable. Become equipped to serve on the front lines of human need in churches, nonprofits, and community agencies.
New Certificate
Through the state’s only transitional pathway to elementary education, gain the foundational knowledge and classroom skills needed to earn Virginia teacher licensure. Complete Level I in a single semester and earn your provisional teaching license, then finish Level II while teaching in your own classroom.
