For the third consecutive year, Regent University School of Psychology & Counseling (SPC) Clinical Psy.D. students earned a 100 percent match rate for the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Internship Matching Program.
Regent’s match rate is 20 percent higher than the national average.
The APPIC Internship Matching program, administered by National Matching Services Inc., released its annual results for the match rates on Friday, February 23. This is more commonly known as “Match Day” to Psy.D. students, who must complete a one-year internship for their doctorate requirements.
“Regent University students have again completed a 100 percent internship match well exceeding the national placement average,” said SPC Dean William Hathaway. “This demonstrates the program’s ongoing competitive quality.”
According to SPC’s Director of Clinical Training, Dr. Linda Baum, the APPIC Internship Matching Program is an incredibly competitive and intense process. Her Psy.D. students prepare for the match process one year in advance, submitting portfolios, CVs, transcripts and case summaries to training programs all over the nation.
“It’s an important milestone in their educational journey,” said Baum. “I’m blessed to be able to partner with them … it’s the most rewarding part of my job.”
This year, her students had an average of nine different interview locations. Two-thirds of her students were selected for their top-choice program.
Baum said that the 100 percent match rate is not only beneficial for the Psy.D. students about to embark on their yearlong internship to complete their degree program, it’s also adds tremendous value to the future of Regent’s Psy.D. program.
“Our students are out there in the community representing Regent very well,” said Baum. “They’re opening a lot of areas for the next group. We’re confident were going to do well next year, too.”
