Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a federally funded grant program offered as part of an eligible student’s financial aid package. This grant is only available for undergraduate students who have not earned a previous bachelors or professional degree, who also demonstrate exceptional financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Limited funds are allocated to the FSEOG program each year, therefore early FAFSA filers are prioritized as award recipients.
- Complete the FAFSA
- Early FAFSA filers are prioritized for funding
- Resolve any subsequent federal aid application requirements
- Follow the Steps to Aid Checklist
- FAFSA results must demonstrate high financial need, based on the Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Awarding priority is given to Federal Pell Grant recipients
- Be admitted or enrolled in a federal aid eligible undergraduate degree program
- Be in good Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standing
- Cannot have previously earned a bachelor’s or professional degree
- Additional criteria apply
Award amounts are capped at the lesser of a student’s unique unmet financial need, or the maximum allowance below.
- Residential up to $4,000 per award year
- Online up to $2,000 per award year
The FSEOG program does not contain an aggregate (lifetime) award limit per student. However, students who have reached the lifetime limit for the Pell or Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants are prioritized after current Pell Grant recipients (per federal rules).
