Regent University has fostered the work and research of many Fulbright scholars through the years, but School of Education (SOE) professor, Dr. M. Gail Derrick was also recently elected to the Fulbright Association Board of Directors.
"I am deeply honored to be a member of this prestigious community of learners, activists and scholars," said Derrick.
She was a Fulbright Specialist to Hungary in 2010 where she worked with leaders and teachers of Roma youth. In 2012, she also served a term on the Board of Directors for the Fulbright Academy, a Fulbright alumni organization that helps connect scholars to institutions for research.
"Dr. Gail Derrick is a true scholar of global influence," said SOE dean, Dr. Alan Arroyo. "She has written for international publications, presented papers worldwide and has served Fulbright in a number of capacities, including as a consultant in Hungary. She will be a valuable addition to the Fulbright Board."
Derrick's term of office on the Governance Committee of the Board begins January 1, 2014. Established in 1977, the Fulbright Association is a private, nonprofit organization whose members are Fulbright Program alumni and friends of international education. The Association supports and promotes international educational and cultural exchange and the ideal most associated with the Fulbright name—mutual understanding among the peoples of the world.
