For the first time, Regent University students in the School of Communication & the Arts (SCA) will have the opportunity to experience Hollywood up close and personal. The new two-week immersive program runs May 8-23 and will give students an opportunity to write scripts under the tutelage of working television writers in Los Angeles.

"I think this is by far one of the most remarkable arrangements we've ever made for students," said Andrew Quicke, professor in SCA and CTV department chair. "This is a life-changing and important opportunity for any student interested in the film and television industry."

This inaugural year's focus will be on writing and producing for the television industry. During the course, students will work in a television writer's room atmosphere under the guidance of industry experts, developing a webisodic TV series. Students will be exposed to countless industry professionals as they visit studios, work with television writers and producers, receive feedback on their original work, and network with television executives.

Classes will be held at the L.A. Film Studies Center (LAFSC) and will provide students with three credit hours for the course Topics in Screenwriting: Writing and Producing the Television Script. The class will be led by Professor Booker T. Mattison.

"The department plans to produce here in Virginia Beach the scripts that are written in Hollywood as one or more of our endowed film projects," Mattison said. "The Hollywood Experience demonstrates the cinema-television department's commitment to providing solid instruction, practical experience and access to industry professionals for our students. All three are necessary to best position our graduates to make a mark in the entertainment industry."

Students and alumni are required to submit an application with a writing sample in order to be considered for the program. The program is only open to qualified Regent graduate students and SCA alumni. The final deadline to apply for the course is Feb. 7, and the program fee is $1,500.
