Regent Students Win 2nd Place at National Religious Broadcasters Film Competition

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Feb. 27, 2024) – Regent University students claimed the spotlight at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) 2024 Convention for their compelling visual storytelling.

Lauren Gilmeister, Marcus Carola, Mikayla Watson, and Sam Gonzalez competed in the annual convention that was held in Nashville this year. The showcase culminated with a dynamic 24-hour filmmaking event that earned the students a 2nd place honor for their film Paper Cranes.

“I have the privilege of witnessing how skilled and talented our students are on a daily basis,” said Mike Sinclair, Department Chair, Media and Visual Arts. “However, having their work awarded by such a well-respected film platform and audience offers the much-needed encouragement to springboard them into their destiny.”

This win was even more remarkable because it was Regent University’s first time back at NRB since 2016.

“The NRB Convention is an ideal experience for our Regent students because it gives them an invaluable look from inside the industry,” said Dr. Simon Tarr, Director of the School of Communication and the Arts and the Dean of the Honors College at Regent University. “It’s a Christian conference that connects students with top decision-makers and industry leaders. They get to network, ask questions, and learn from the best.”

During the NRB Convention, the Intercollegiate National Religious Broadcasters (iNRB) hosted a series of meetings that allowed students and faculty to share ideas and successes between schools. In addition to film, students were invited to compete in production, audio, and news challenges.
