Study Abroad Trip: Literary Britain and Ireland

May 20 – 30, 2023

Regent University’s College of Arts and Sciences is delighted to offer a Study Abroad Trip to key literary sites in Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England. Students will enjoy guided, educational tours of important cathedrals, castles, and colleges.

One special topics literature course will be offered in conjunction with the trip in Spring Session D—English 475, “The Roads of the Romantic” which will be taught on site and online by Dr. Peter Fraser. Students will have the opportunity to study and interact with great literature in its own cultural context, while exploring many of the marvels of Britain and Ireland.

Participants will visit:

  • Kilkenny Castle
  • Wicklow Pass and Mountains
  • Snowdon in Wales
  • Windermere and the English Lake District
  • Edinburgh Castle
  • Holyrood Palace
  • Christ Church College, Oxford
  • S. Lewis’ Home, the Kilns
  • Tower of London
  • Westminster Cathedral
  • Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace
  • Emergency Medical Travel Insurance
  • Lodging
  • All breakfasts
  • One dinner
  • British Rail passes
  • Cab and bus travel to designated sites
  • Globe Theatre tickets
  • Admissions to designated sites
  • Lecture and tour at the Kilns
  • Professional Tours and Entry at all designated sites

Above stated price does NOT include:

  • Airfare
  • Cab fare to and from airports
  • Lunches and dinners
  • Course credit costs

$250 registration deposit is non-refundable except in the case where the university cancels the trip. All other payments will be refunded in full if cancellation occurs on or before April 5, 2021. Partial refunds may be granted after the April 5 deadline if alternate participants can be registered and processed.

Regent University’s College of Arts and Sciences is delighted to offer a Study Abroad Trip offering an in-depth study of the life and ideas of Adam Smith. This trip is in conjunction with Dr. Fraser’s trip to visit key literary sites in Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England, and we will be traveling as one group much of the time. Students will enjoy guided, educational tours of important cathedrals, castles, and colleges.

The trip will be for credit through a special studies class—query Dr. Brian Baugus for details. The group will follow the life and times of Adam Smith. The trip and the course will discuss Smith’s influence and impact with a special focus on smith’s influence on the founding of the United States.

Participants will visit:

  • Kirkaldy Scotland  – Adam Smith birthplace
  • Edinburgh  – where Pammure House (Smith’s last residentce) is located and Smith’s grave
  • The Royal Mile
  • Oxford University
  • Adam Smith Institute in London
  • Parliament/Westminster/Big Ben
  • Cafe Procope – Cafe in the Latin Quarter of Paris where Smith ate as did Jefferson, Franklin, Voltaire
  • Eiffel Tower
  • Notre Dame
  • Champs-Élysées
  • 92 Avenue Champs-Élysées – Jefferson’s residence in Paris
  • Passy – Benjamin Franklins’ home in Paris
  • Hotel d’York – where the peace treaty that gave America its independence was signed
