Balancing Church Mobilization & Vocational Discernment: A 10-month Gap Year Internship Framework for a Campus-reaching Church

Barry Lee | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

Campus-reaching church plants face a dual challenge: helping young adults discern calling while mobilizing laborers for mission. This project proposes a 10-month gap-year internship to address a formation gap among recent graduates and mobilize young leaders for outreach. The purpose is to help young adults discern long-term calling and develop transferable skills through active participation in the life and mission of the church. Interns clarify vocational direction, cultivate servanthood and stewardship, and develop habits of work and prayer.

The program contains four core elements:

  • Formation (spiritual disciplines & liturgical rhythms)
  • Forums (strategic instruction from experienced leaders & a dual mentorship model)
  • Fieldwork (hands-on campus ministry)
  • Frontiers (innovative outreach to unreached campus groups)

The intended audience is for recent graduates and young adults seeking deeper discipleship, discerning a call to ministry, and desiring growth in transferable and relational skills. The program progresses through three phases: Orientation, Apprenticeship, and Missional Outreach Project. Embedded in a church plant, the internship leverages proximity to major universities to integrate mission and formation in a real-world ministry environment. This internship helps recent graduates become spiritually grounded, practically equipped, and missionally empowered to step into adulthood with greater clarity and conviction, while providing leaders for the church’s mission.

The project provides chapters on the strategy, design, curriculum, implementation, management, and recruitment components of the internship.

Biblical Strategic Foresight Leadership Training Curriculum

Elder Richard L. Dixon, Jr. | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

In a world of accelerating change, Christian leaders are called to guide their organizations with wisdom and foresight. This project introduces the Biblical Strategic Foresight Leadership Training Curriculum, a program designed to equip leaders to anticipate, prepare for, and leverage emerging trends in alignment with God’s divine purpose.

While exemplary leaders possess a strategic mindset, this curriculum provides a systematic framework for developing and refining that mindset from a distinctly biblical perspective. It moves beyond secular forecasting models to ground strategic thinking in the character and calling of a Christian leader.

The curriculum’s primary objective is to empower leaders across every sphere of influence—ministry, business, government, the military, non-profits, and entrepreneurship—to navigate challenges to their organization’s mission, vision, and objectives. By integrating scriptural principles with proven strategic methods, participants will strengthen their leadership style, sharpen their attributes, and elevate their impact. Ultimately, this training cultivates leaders who build resilient, innovative, and God-honoring organizations for lasting impact.

Blueprint for L.O.V.E. Learning Opportunities in Volatile Environments

Latonya Bradford | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

In Blueprint for L.O.V.E.: Learning Opportunities in Volatile Environments, Dr. Latonya R. Bradford presents more than a doctoral final project—she offers a compelling story of faith, resilience, and transformation. Drawing from her own leadership journey, she created an Individual Leadership Development Plan that helps readers intentionally strengthen resilience, adaptability, authenticity, self-awareness, compassion, and purpose. Rather than separating leadership from lived experience, this work shows how pain, failure, and restoration can become part of the process of forming strong, effective leaders. For readers, the manuscript offers both practical guidance and personal encouragement, serving as a roadmap for navigating hardship, reframing obstacles as opportunities, and discovering how faith and perseverance can lead to renewed vision.

At its core, the project explores how volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous life experiences can become opportunities for extraordinary growth. Written in a book-dissertation style, it blends memoir, leadership theory, coaching insight, and biblical reflection to show that leadership is often shaped in life’s most difficult seasons. By recounting her personal experiences of hardship, rejection, grief, incarceration, healing, and spiritual renewal, Dr. Bradford demonstrates that adversity need not define a person’s future. Instead, it can become the ground where extraordinary strength, wisdom, compassion, and purpose are formed. Each chapter invites readers to reflect, heal, and grow through practical leadership development tools and coaching exercises that support the journey from merely surviving to thriving in the face of adversity.

For its audience, Blueprint for L.O.V.E. serves as both an inspiring personal testimony and a practical leadership guide. It reminds readers that the hardest chapters of life do not have the final word. With honesty, grace, and hope, Dr. Bradford encourages readers to see that setbacks can become places of growth, wounds can carry wisdom, and challenges can open the way to transformation. At its heart, this project affirms that what tried to break a person may become the very thing God uses to shape an extraordinary leader.

Catalyzing Latino Gen Z Leadership: Strategies to Empower the Next Generation in the Federal Workforce

Alex Shimabukuro | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

The federal workforce is undergoing a significant generational and demographic transition, creating an urgent need for leadership strategies that attract, develop, and retain the next generation of public servants. Catalyzing Latino Gen Z Leadership examines the leadership opportunities, cultural influences, workplace expectations, and institutional barriers affecting Latino members of Generation Z as they enter and advance within the federal workforce.

Grounded in strategic leadership, transformational leadership, cross-cultural leadership, and contemporary workforce research, this Doctor of Strategic Leadership project presents a research-informed framework for preparing Latino Gen Z professionals to become capable, confident, and mission-focused federal leaders. The manuscript explores how cultural identity, family values, mentorship, representation, organizational trust, technology, professional development, and a sense of purpose influence the leadership development and workplace experiences of this emerging generation.

The project also examines the responsibility of federal agencies and senior leaders to create organizational environments in which Latino Gen Z employees can contribute their talents, develop professionally, and envision long-term careers in public service. Particular attention is given to leadership practices that strengthen inclusion, cultural intelligence, employee engagement, succession planning, intergenerational collaboration, and organizational adaptability.

Drawing upon leadership scholarship, demographic analysis, cross-cultural research, and more than twenty-six years of military and federal leadership experience, the manuscript connects theory with practical application. It offers actionable strategies for senior executives, supervisors, mentors, human capital professionals, and emerging leaders seeking to build a more representative, resilient, and future-ready federal workforce.

Ultimately, Catalyzing Latino Gen Z Leadership presents a call to action for federal organizations to move beyond recruitment and intentionally invest in the development, empowerment, and advancement of Latino Gen Z professionals. By cultivating their leadership potential, federal agencies can strengthen institutional effectiveness, expand the public-service leadership pipeline, and better prepare the government to serve an increasingly diverse nation.

Coaching Leaders God’s Way: A Biblical Approach to Transformational Leadership

Annette Wilson | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

In today’s complex and rapidly evolving global environment, the demand for ethical, authentic, and values-driven leadership has reached a critical threshold. Across sectors, including politics, nonprofit organizations, corporate institutions, and church ministries, persistent patterns of corruption, moral compromise, and misuse of power continue to undermine organizational trust, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. This study examines the contemporary leadership crisis through the lens of strategic leadership, identifying a significant departure from foundational principles rooted in integrity, accountability, and servant leadership.

Grounded in biblical teachings and modeled after the life and character of Jesus Christ, this research explores the integration of spiritually grounded leadership within modern organizational systems. It emphasizes the role of leaders as ethical stewards who influence culture, shape organizational behavior, and drive sustainable transformation. By applying strategic leadership frameworks, this study highlights how values-based leadership fosters trust, enhances decision-making, and strengthens organizational resilience in complex and uncertain environments.

Furthermore, this work positions biblical leadership as a transformative model that aligns personal character with organizational strategy. It argues that leaders who prioritize humility, ethical responsibility, and service over self-interest are better equipped to lead adaptive, high-performing organizations. The findings suggest that re-centering leadership practices on moral and spiritual foundations is essential for cultivating effective transformational leadership, restoring organizational integrity, achieving long-term impact, and fulfilling the Great Commission as mandated by Jesus.

This research contributes to the field of strategic leadership by bridging faith-based principles with contemporary leadership theory, offering a holistic approach to developing leaders who are both mission-driven and strategically effective.

Discovering the Leader Within: Moving with the Right Intentions to Shape Your Leadership Legacy

Leslie Owens Brown | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

As leaders, we each have a legacy, intentional or not, and that legacy should not be taken lightly. This manuscript offers an introspective and extrospective journey towards discovering the leader within oneself, while also providing insight into issues leaders encounter, in which the legacy they are creating can impact others when their behavior and actions are not shaped with the right intentions by way of moral principles, strategic activities, resources, and tools that enhance their knowledge, skills, and capacities.

Drawing on more than twenty years of leadership experience, workplace studies, and research, the objective of this manuscript is to offer actionable approaches to help readers examine the leader within themselves and prepare them to answer the question, ‘What will your leadership legacy be?’ A leadership legacy is not built on titles or awards, but on the impact of leaders’ behavior and actions after they leave the organization. Employees want effective leaders who are authentic, empathetic, transparent, and accountable. Leaders who possess those qualities receive greater employee engagement in return.

While leaders aspire to leave an impactful, positive legacy, not every leader will. For those who will, leading with your ‘why’ and maintaining an ethical framework are crucial for building a lasting leadership legacy. The manuscript concludes by revisiting the question, ‘What will your leadership legacy be?’ Whatever the answer, keep in mind that a leadership legacy requires intentionality and a clear purpose, leaving people and the organization better off because of the choices leaders make. The actions and words of leaders today are what their employees and others will remember tomorrow, so it is important that those moments, small or not, are brought forward with intention and true purpose to echo beyond one’s immediate influence.

Forming an EODGRU TWO Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) Team

Salvatore Dentu | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

To ensure Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) forces are prepared for the modern battlefield, this proposal recommends the creation of a dedicated Operational Readiness Inspection (ORI) Team within Navy EOD. This ORI team’s mission will be to mentor and evaluate Mobile Units (MUs) throughout their training cycles to ensure a high level of tactical competence and expeditionary readiness.

Following a standard doctrinal framework, the ORI process would commence at the start of a unit’s training plan with an administrative inspection. To foster continuous improvement, each MU would be assigned mentors—a retired senior officer and a retired senior enlisted leader—who will guide throughout the training period. The entire process will culminate in a comprehensive Full Mission Exercise (FTX) that serves as the final assessment of the unit’s wartime capabilities.

This demanding FTX, held at a combat readiness training center, will simulate deployed conditions in a hostile environment. The ORI Team will evaluate the unit on its ability to effectively deploy, survive, and operate. The evaluation will focus on tactical competence, with units receiving a grade from “outstanding” or “unsatisfactory.”

A strong emphasis will be placed on preparing units for the complexities of modern warfare. Scenarios will include challenges involving Unmanned Systems (UxS), communications-denied environments, electronic countermeasures, and intelligence-driven attacks from near-peer adversaries. The ORI Team’s evaluation will be meticulous, grading all aspects of the operation, from mission planning to individual situational awareness and safety. This rigorous assessment aims to measure a unit’s true combat potential rather than its theoretical effectiveness.

The intent of the ORI Team’s FTX is for it to be regarded with the same seriousness as a real-world deployment. Supported by extensive analysis and command input, this proposal has been consolidated for a final decision brief. When approved, this initiative will establish a new standard for readiness, making Navy EOD forces more lethal. The long-term vision is to expand this ORI model to the entire Navy Expeditionary Force, enhancing the tactical proficiency of the whole Navy expeditionary community.

Leadership Heart Posture: Cultivating Influence in a Diverse and Divided World

Tamika Groves | 2026

Program: Doctor of Strategic Leadership Program

Abstract

Leadership is often measured by performance outcomes, positional authority, and organizational results; however, these indicators do not fully capture the internal foundation that shapes a leader’s influence. This manuscript introduces the concept of Leadership Heart Posture, defined as the alignment between a leader’s inner life, including values, character, and spiritual formation, and their outward leadership behaviors.

Drawing from biblical principles, contemporary leadership theory, and lived leadership experiences, this manuscript examines how internal posture influences decision-making, organizational culture, and leadership effectiveness. Informed by real-world leadership challenges, this work offers a critical perspective on the imbalance that occurs when external competencies are emphasized without equal attention to internal formation. Rather than dismissing the importance of skills and strategy, this manuscript positions leadership heart posture as a necessary foundation for sustainable and transformational leadership.

Through a progression of themes including leadership misalignment, emotional wounds, microaggressions, surrender, servant leadership, courage, integrity, and wisdom, this work explores the complexities leaders face in diverse and evolving organizational environments. Attention is given to emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential components of effective leadership.

The HEART framework, defined as Humility, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, and Trust, is presented as an emerging conceptual model that guides leaders in aligning their internal posture with their external influence. To support practical application, the manuscript introduces a HEART in Action decision-making tool, enabling leaders to apply the framework in real-time leadership situations. A practice-based case study further demonstrates how HEART-informed leadership can improve communication, team performance, and organizational culture.

Biblical case studies, including David, Esther, Elijah, and Daniel, illustrate the connection between spiritual alignment and leadership development. These narratives, combined with personal leadership reflections, emphasize the importance of healing, discernment, and spiritual surrender in sustaining effective leadership.

This manuscript affirms that leadership legacy is not defined solely by achievements, but by the condition of the leader’s heart. When leaders intentionally cultivate a heart posture aligned with God’s principles, their leadership produces lasting impact characterized by integrity, compassion, and transformational influence.
