Purpose

Every year, during our annual commissioning celebration, the School of Business & Leadership takes great pride in bestowing a prestigious honor upon one of our exceptional alumni. This distinguished recognition is the induction into The School of Business & Leadership Alumni Hall of Distinction, a distinguished group reserved for individuals who have made profound contributions to their respective fields and have positively impacted society, both domestically and internationally. Through their endeavors, they have advanced the cause of Christ and exemplified Christian Leadership to Change the World.

The Hall of Distinction serves as a testament to the exceptional achievements of our alumni and their unwavering commitment to making a positive difference and advancing the Gospel. Through their endeavors, the inductees into the Alumni Hall of Distinction have not only left an indelible mark on their respective fields but have also embodied the spirit of servant leadership. As we celebrate the induction of each new member into the Alumni Hall of Distinction, we recognize and honor their exceptional achievements, their unwavering dedication, and their significant contributions. They serve as beacons of inspiration, representing the very best of what our School of Business & Leadership stands for and imparting a powerful legacy for future generations to follow.

These criteria collectively recognize individuals who have achieved remarkable success, demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, and positively impacted their communities and professions. Through their outstanding contributions, they serve as role models and inspire others to strive for excellence in the fields of business and leadership.

Current Inductee

Arun Daniel is an accomplished investment professional with over 25 years of experience in managing US and global equities on Wallstreet.

Arun currently serves as Head of Equity Strategies and Global Portfolio Manager for American Century Investments managing over $240 billion in assets, based in New York City. Arun has consistently outperformed benchmarks across multiple strategies while his most recent global fund achieved Morningstar Five-Star fund rating with top decile performance since inception among peers in global equity strategies.

Prior to joining American Century, Arun successfully managed portfolios for global asset managers including Fidelity Investments, J O Hambro of London, and Voya Investment Management.

Arun led global investment management teams to build institutional platforms in the US, Europe, and Asia. Arun has advised major investment banks on IPOs and private equity deals on valuations and spinoffs.

Arun serves as a sector expert and commentator for financial media including Bloomberg, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and a presenter in international investment forums in the US, Europe, Asia, and Harvard Business School.

Arun and his wife Angela reside in Stamford, CT and attend Harvest Time Church in Greenwich. He also serves as a board member of International Cooperating Ministries that helps build churches worldwide.

Previous Inductees

Mayor Bobby Dyer was sworn into office on November 20, 2018, and is the first veteran to be directly elected as mayor in Virginia Beach history. Prior to that, he represented the Centerville District on City Council for 14 years.

Dr. Dyer is currently an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business & Leadership and a Practitioner-in-Residence in the Robertson School of Government at Regent University. Positions he’s held in the past include health care executive, physical therapist practitioner and assistant professor at various local institutions of higher learning. Dyer served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1972. In 1976, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University and in 1982, a master’s degree in public administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In 2001, he earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University.

Bobby currently serves as the City Council liaison to the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance, the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, Hampton Roads Alliance, the Regional Task Force on Youth Violence, the Human Rights Commission, as well as the Process Improvement Steering Committee, which he initiated.

Dyer and his wife, Trish, live in the Lake Christopher community and have two children and five grandchildren.

Winsome Earle-Sears, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, immigrated to the United States at the age of six. She is proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to her various appointments, she has served as the Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education; and as a presidential appointee to the US Census Bureau, as co-chair of the African American Committee; and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Winsome was first elected in 2002 to a majority Black House of Delegates district, a first for a Republican in Virginia since 1865. She is the first female Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the first Black female elected to statewide office.

A former program manager for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and VISTA volunteer, Winsome is a trained electrician and successful businesswoman. However, Winsome is most proud of her community work leading a men’s prison ministry and as director of a women’s homeless shelter. She holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Economics, and an M.A. in Organizational Leadership, with a concentration in Government. Winsome and her husband, Terence, have two daughters Katia and Janel, in addition to DeJon, and granddaughters Victoria and Faith, who are now looking into the face of God.

Dr. Arthur L. Satterwhite III is a recognized voice on Leadership and Diversity who is passionate about serving and seeing communities flourish. Whether in workplaces or faith-spaces, it is his belief that by overcoming leadership issues stemming from increasing diversity, individuals and organizations will realize greater human and organizational flourishing. Thus, he is often called upon to help communities by providing inspiration, training, and strategic consulting as a means of preparing his audiences and clients to realize their collective potential.

With a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership, a Masters in Religious Education, and a Bachelors in Business/Marketing, Dr. Satterwhite combines more than a decade of professional and ministerial experience with a keen sense of strategy to both inspire and equip individuals to serve their communities better. Aside from his travels to speak and consult around the world, he also fulfills this passion in his roles as Vice President of Diversity, Belonging & Strategy at Young Life, as an Adjunct Professor in Regent University’s School of Business and Leadership, and as a consultant through his firm Satterwhite & Co. He has served a broad array of clients and communities (e.g., U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Regent University, American Bible Society, Young Life, Community Baptist Church, and more) address their leadership and diversity challenges, to go on and become strategic, vital institutions that have significant impact in their industries (e.g., government, academia, ministry, etc.).

Additionally, Dr. Satterwhite has the privilege of serving on a host of boards and advisory committees for several local and global organizations including Christian Leadership Alliance, Missio Seminary, Young Life’s Northeast Atlantic Subdivision, and more. However, his most important role is that of a loving husband to his infinitely better half, Safiyah. Together, they reside in the Greater New York Area, though their love to travel often has them frequenting different locales around the world.

Cindy Hopkins joined the Care Net team in 2006 and currently serves as the Vice President of Center Services and Client Care. In this role, Cindy provides leadership to program staff and is dedicated to Care Net’s vision of transformational services for people considering abortion.

Care Net envisions a culture where women and men faced with pregnancy decisions are transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and empowered to choose life for their unborn children and abundant life for their families. (Care Net Vision Statement).

Cindy and her team use innovation and creativity to develop and deliver meaningful resources, training, and education to Care Net’s network of more than 1100 pregnancy centers, helping these life-affirming ministries effectively achieve their mission of serving women, men, & families at risk for abortion.

Cindy also provides leadership to Care Net’s national call center, Pregnancy Decision Line (PDL-help.org), where everyday Pregnancy Decision Coaches offer compassion, hope, and help to women and men considering abortion.

Cindy has been actively involved in the pregnancy center movement since 1990. She has served as a peer counselor, board member, abstinence leader, and as Executive Director for the Pregnancy Care Center of Ogden, Utah. Before accepting a position with Care Net, Cindy served as the Director of Outreach for the Assist Pregnancy Center in Annandale, VA.

Cindy earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah and a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Stephen Levy is President of Wincorp International, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Jamaica Broilers Group of Companies (JBG) located in Medley, Florida. Wincorp International is focused on meeting customers’ needs and bringing value to their operations through providing premium quality products and systems.

Mr. Levy has been President of Wincorp International Inc. since May 1, 2013 and under this portfolio, he has spearheaded the reorganization, development and the profitable growth of the U.S. operations, supervising divisions located in Miami, Georgia, Arkansas, as well as one of JBG’s latest acquisitions, Welp Hatchery / IPB Hatcheries located in Iowa and Pennsylvania, specializing in day-old poultry.

Mr. Levy began his Jamaica Broilers’ career in 2003 as Operations Manager at Content Agricultural Products. He has since occupied several management roles including: Operations and General Manager at Aquaculture Limited; Assistant Vice President of Energy Operations for the Group, having responsibility for the leadership of the Ethanol Expansion Project and JBG’s Cogeneration operation located in St. Catherine, Jamaica; and was then appointed as Vice President of Jamaica Broilers Group.

In March 2, 2016, Mr. Stephen Levy was appointed as a Director of Jamaica Broilers Group. His leadership and management skills have helped the Group and Wincorp International, develop strong relationships with key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, government and non-governmental organizations.

Mr. Levy is married to Michka-Mae Levy and has three children: Eva, Sydney and Roman Levy.

Recognized as one of the top executive coaches in the United States, Dr. Jason Carthen, AKA “The Leadership Linebacker™,” is a former professional football player with the World Champion New England Patriots, an international speaker, bestselling author, media personality and philanthropist.

With a personal mission to motivate, inspire and challenge individuals and organizations to achieve their very best, Jason has helped shape over a half million successful leaders, managers and employees.

Through his global consultancy, Jason Carthen Enterprises, he works with Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies to provide quality training and coaching for thousands of men and women each year. His training programs focus on leadership, team dynamics and organizational culture.

Jason’s research-based leadership solutions and personal development tools are used by some of the most successful companies in the world. His clients include the U.S. Government, General Motors, Chick-fil-A, FedEx, the National Football League, the American Dairy Association, Cleveland Clinic Health Systems, Human Synergistics, Shamrock Companies, Rheem and Chevrolet, to name a few.

He is founder of Speak Life University® and The Speak Life Academy©, as well as his nonprofit organization, The Leaders of Tomorrow Initiative, which provides mentoring, training and educational initiatives for youth and young adults. His latest book Destiny Focused Leadership™ is forthcoming and focuses on leading with heart while being guided by a long-term vision.

Jason has risen to international prominence on matters of leadership, business and motivation, and has been featured in Harvard Business, Forbes, Christian Leadership and Inc. Magazine.

Jason earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University in 2009. He and his wife, Mireidy, also a School of Business & Leadership alumna, live in Ohio with their daughters.

Kenton Lee is a husband, father, entrepreneur and nonprofit leader. After earning his Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Regent University in 2008, Kenton used his learning to create his organization Because International. Their first project: an adjustable, expandable shoe called The Shoe That Grows. Kenton works every day to try to fulfill his personal mission: Putting others in a spot to succeed.

A lifelong Idaho native, Kenton graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in 2007. Upon graduating, he traveled internationally in Ecuador and Kenya. It was during his time living and working at a small orphanage outside of Nairobi where he had an idea for a shoe that could grow. He returned to Idaho and began work creating this product. It took more than six years of ups and downs until The Shoe That Grows was born. In October 2014, the first batch of 3,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows was delivered to Kenton’s house in Idaho.

Kenton was serving as a pastor of a church plant when The Shoe That Grows accidentally went viral in April 2015. Since then, he and his team have distributed over 75,000 pairs to children in over 80 countries. They are beginning to bring jobs to developing countries through the production of their shoes in Ethiopia and Haiti, and will soon be using recycled materials to make the shoes. The goal is to squeeze every ounce of impact possible out of this innovative idea.

Kenton loves living in Nampa, Idaho with his wife and two kids where life has a slower pace. He loves fishing, hiking, reading books and watching basketball.

David Burkus, having earned his Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree from Regent University in 2012, is a best-selling author, an award-winning podcaster, and a management professor.

His latest book, Under New Management, reveals the counterintuitive leadership practices that actually enhance engagement and drive performance in companies. He is also the author of The Myths of Creativity: The Truth About How Innovative Companies and People Generate Great Ideas. David is a regular contributor to Harvard Business Review and Forbes. His work has been featured in Fast Company, Inc, the Financial Times, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and CBS This Morning.

David’s innovative views on leadership have earned him invitations to speak to leaders from a variety of organizations. He’s delivered keynote speeches and workshops for Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Stryker, in-demand conferences such as SXSW and TEDx events, and governmental and military leaders at the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School. He’s also the host of the award-winning podcast Radio Free Leader.

When he’s not speaking or writing, David is in the classroom. He is associate professor of management at Oral Roberts University, where he teaches courses on organizational behavior, creativity and innovation, and strategic leadership. In 2015, David was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40 Professors Who Inspire.” He serves on the advisory board of Fuse Corps, a nonprofit dedicated to making transformative and replicable change in local government.

David lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his wife and their two boys.

A native of Ukraine, Nataliya Khom’yak came to Regent University to pursue her MBA with an emphasis in global leadership and entrepreneurship after serving for several years as a missionary with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). While at Regent, she served as vice president of development for Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and director of international business development for the School of Business & Leadership.

While studying at Regent, she began working at the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and helped The 700 Club co-host Terry Meeuwsen’s three adopted Ukranian children learn English and adapt to American culture. Their friendship and concern for orphans grew. Following two years of prayer and strategizing, Nataliya and Terry co-founded Orphan’s Promise (OP) within the global ministry of CBN International. Nataliya currently serves as director of operations for Orphan’s Promise, a unique children’s ministry that promotes the well-being of underprivileged, at-risk kids around the world by providing for their spiritual, physical, social and emotional needs. Orphan’s Promise is currently partnering with local ministries in 53 countries and has changed the lives of children in more than 60 countries over the past 10 years.

Nataliya and her husband, Yuriy, who is also deeply involved in the ministry, have four daughters, two of whom are adopted. The whole family enjoys volunteering at various orphanages, shelters and prisons, and with educational initiatives and community development programs around the world.

An energetic, positive, encouraging servant in God’s kingdom, D. Clay Perkins, Ph.D. has been in the ministry since 1979. Serving both small and large churches in Georgia, Ohio and North Carolina, Perkins was ordained at Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. In 2006, just two years after earning his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, Perkins became president of Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) in Elizabeth City, N.C. His current duties as president encompass strategic planning, management, fund raising, promotion and university oversight. Additionally, he teaches leadership courses at MACU and other universities, and is a visiting scholar at Capella University.

Earning degrees from Point University, Cincinnati Christian University and Regent University, Perkins’ business background includes The Time Gallery, Inc. and Perkins Services Group, Inc, where he currently serves as president. Perkins serves on boards for HASTEN International and Financial Planning Ministries, and has impacted lives globally through short-term mission trips to New Zealand, Haiti, Mexico, France, Thailand and India. Perkins is also involved in the local community as a Rotarian and a director of the Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife Sandra worship at Journey Christian Church in Elizabeth City, N.C. They have two grown sons and two granddaughters, which explains why his favorite title is “Poppy.”

Rex Miller is a nationally respected futurist, theologian, consultant and communications expert. As a thought-provoking keynote, conference and seminar speaker, Rex has presented at more than 100 industry and professional events.

Rex’s book, The Millennium Matrix: Reclaiming the Past and Reframing the Future of the Church, provides a groundbreaking view of the power that changing media has on culture and the church. In his second book, The Commercial Real Estate Revolution, Rex provides nine transforming keys for lowering cost, cutting waste and driving change in this $1.4 trillion industry.

In 2006, Rex formed and led the Mindshift Consortium, a collection of leading architecture, engineering and construction (A/E/C) firms and organizations that conducted research on how to transform a highly dysfunctional and wasteful industry. The Mindshift Consortium was underwritten by Haworth and won the 2009 CoreNet Global Innovator of the Year Award.

Rex joined TAG Consulting as a senior partner in 2010. He is currently TAG’s resident futurist and key leader in faith-based practice. He also leads their A/E/C practice and strengths-based leadership training.

In 2011, Rex launched the case4space initiative, underwritten by firms like Google, Haworth, Balfour Beatty and Cousin’s. This new industry change initiative aims to change the thinking about the value of the workplace to improve employee engagement.

Rex earned his Master of Arts in Strategic Foresight in 2011 from Regent University, has CoreClarity certification, is a member of the National Speakers Association, and is a United States Professional Tennis Association professional.

With a vision to support the positive transformation occurring within his home country, Dr. Rodrigo Zárate earned his MBA in 2003 and his Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree in 2007 from Regent University. Upon completion of both degrees, he directed his attention on returning to Colombia. Zárate began teaching undergraduate business and leadership courses at the Universidad EAN in Bogota, Columbia, in 2010. Now, after just a few years, he is not only making an impact by teaching and preparing Columbia’s future leaders, but also internationally recognized for his efforts. In 2011, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) presented him with the 2011 Teaching Excellence Award for the Latin American region due to the high marks he received in the areas of excellence in classroom teaching and learning, professional development, institutional versatility, curriculum development, and community commitment. Zárate is currently the director of the Doctorate in Management Program at Universidad EAN, as well as the editor in chief of Revista de Estudios Avanzados de Liderazgo (REAL), an electronic leadership journal published in Spanish by the School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship.

An international leader of Internet technology standards for more than 30 years, founder of NextHop Technologies, and recognized as one of the top experts in routing and switching technology, Susan Hares (MOL, ’08) is the senior director of IP standards in the IP Business Unit, Network Product Line of Huawei Technologies (USA).

In her role at Huawei, Susan leads a multinational team of Internet researchers, pushing the boundaries of Internet technology in optical, edge of the network and data center technologies. She holds the technical rank of distinguished engineer within Huawei and serves on Huawei’s technical leadership team.

With a mind for technology and a heart for entrepreneurship, Susan has focused the last 15 years on building new internet businesses. In 2000, she founded NextHop Technologies, an international technology firm that developed the world’s leading software for routing, switching and wireless Local Area Network (LAN). Serving as NextHop’s chief technology officer, Susan aided Green Hills Software (GHS) in building the GateD Product for secure data centers in commercial and military environments. In 2007, Susan brought the GateD Product line into GHS from NextHop and became GHS’s director of networking solutions.

As a 2008 graduate of Regent University’s School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship, Susan has used her M.A. in Organizational Leadership to aid in her work regarding international standards, cross-cultural management and entrepreneurial business. Susan is active in the Internet Standards organization IETF, co-chairs the Inter-Domain Routing Group (IDR) and is co-author of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) specification.

A community leader, business owner and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Scott Rigell (MBA ’90) is the founder and chairman of Freedom Automotive in Virginia Beach, Va. He and his wife own automobile dealerships in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake, Va.

In addition to being a past president of the Hampton Roads Automobile Dealers Association, Rigell has been actively involved in various non-profit and community organizations including the local chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, local chapters of the United Way, the Boy Scouts and the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, and was awarded the 2001 Corporate Volunteer Leadership Award by the VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads board.

Passionate about educating and enriching the lives of others in Virginia as well as overseas, Rigell has been instrumental in bringing Christian higher education to Tanzania as co-founder and board member of the Friends of St. John’s University. In Virginia, he has recently completed six years of service as board member of Horizons Hampton Roads, a non-profit organization offering a unique summer enrichment experience to low-income students who attend public elementary or middle schools in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Portsmouth, Va. He has also served as a volunteer mentor at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Va, and as a partner-in-education at Willoughby Elementary School in Norfolk, Va.

Dr. Marshal H. Wright (Ph.D. ’03) is the interim dean for the School of Business, chair of the Graduate Business Department and tenured professor of graduate business at Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, Okla. He also maintains a private law practice focusing on the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts, and estate and gift taxation. Wright graduated with both a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from ORU, and received a Juris Doctor in Law and Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University.

Wright has consulted for organizations such as Promise Keepers and Azusa Pacific University, serves on several nonprofit and corporate boards, and has received numerous awards related to innovation and the use of technology in the classroom, research, teaching, scholarship and service. In 2003, he was selected as GLE’s Outstanding Ph.D. Graduate for his academic and leadership excellence. Most recently, Wright was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award for Region VI of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, the accrediting body for the ORU School of Business.

Wright is involved in extensive research in both nonprofit and for-profit strategic leadership and development, has published and presented numerous articles, book chapters, papers and essays, and has authored a book in the area of estate planning titled Inheritance By a Promise.

Jeremy Christopher Kohomban (Ph.D. ’04) is the president and CEO of The Children’s Village and The Center for Child Welfare Research at the Children’s Village Institute.

Prior to The Children’s Village, Dr. Kohomban was the senior vice president at Easter Seals New York and the president of the D.C.-based National Association for Family Based Services.

Dr. Kohomban is a noted expert in child welfare and his leadership successes have been noted by the New York Times, NPR and other industry publications. In their story discussing the child welfare crises in New York, City Limits magazine identified Dr. Kohomban as a leader with a “clear vision for the future.” Dr. Kohomban has served on numerous boards of directors and currently serves on the boards of the Child Welfare Watch, New York City’s Youth Advocacy Center, the Child Welfare Organizing Project, the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies and the Washington, D.C-based American Youth Work Center, publisher of the periodical Youth Today. He has earned a reputation as a leader who effectively blends human services with accountability and a pragmatic business sense. He is the author of a number of articles and is a nationally recognized speaker on topics of organizational leadership, system reform and family-focused service delivery.
