Regent University Summer Orientation 2021 Achieves Record Attendance

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (July 12, 2021) – Team times, meeting new friends and engaging in faculty-led breakout sessions. These were just a few of the many highlights of Regent University’s 2021 Summer Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) events. Nearly 250 students from across the nation, plus parents, made this year’s event the largest yet. SOAR included two on-campus orientations, held June 24-25 and 28-29, and a virtual orientation held June 30-July 1. Adding Virtual SOAR to the traditional two-event schedule gave even more rising first-year college students the opportunity to connect with other new students and leaders amid some remaining COVID restrictions.

“SOAR is an amazing mid-summer opportunity for students and their families to meet other incoming Royals and the faculty and staff that will support their learning, living and leadership experience,” said Kyle Graham, Center for Student Happiness director. “Students often remark that SOAR affirms their decision to attend Regent. We are always thrilled to set the stage for this transformative experience.”

Designed for traditional-aged freshmen (23 and younger) who plan to study on campus, SOAR is an excellent chance for students to get a taste of campus life, register for classes, and even request roommates. As students enjoy an energized, informative orientation experience, their parents appreciate hearing from faculty and learning more about how Regent works to educate and equip students inside and beyond the classroom.

Both students and parents especially enjoyed this year’s discipline-specific breakout times with faculty. The Campus Services Fair also gained praise for providing a streamlined opportunity to learn about these key areas: Housing, Health Clinic, Student Activities & Leadership, Bookstore & Gift Shop, Student Success Coaching, Writing Lab, Advising, Theatre, Financial Aid, Counseling & Disability Services, Campus Ministries, Athletics, Career Services, and the Psychological Services.

Hear What First-Time Students Had to Say About SOAR

“I enjoyed getting to talk with the professors in my intended field of study; it provided valuable information and made students (myself included) more excited about their upcoming college experience.”

“I enjoyed The Honors College session and the breakouts for our majors. It really allowed me to get a taste of how biblical teaching is going to be applied in a practical way in my classes and how I will grow as a Christian and a student as a result.”

“My leader went out of her way to make me feel involved and comfortable with the people in our group. We might have lost some games, but we gained trust, friendship and, in broad terms, became a family in such a small amount of time. I can’t wait to see my leader this fall and all the others I met at SOAR 2!”

Events to Watch For

Regent University is eagerly preparing for Welcome Week 2021, August 16-22, for first-time freshmen and transfer students ages 23 and younger.

SOAR 2022 is scheduled for June 23-24 and June 27-28, with virtual event dates yet to be announced. We encourage rising high school seniors and transfer students to apply to Regent at regent.edu/apply.
