In a sort of progressive-style dinner, The Dining Room features 57 characters portrayed by eight actors as they interpret 18 scenes spanning across different decades and household occupants.

“This isn’t your typical theatre fare,” said Jan Gompper, School of College & Sciences professor and director for the production. “For each, this dining room and its furnishing ignite feelings of nostalgia, disdain or indifference.”

The show is certain to captivate audiences, with vignettes weaving in and out of the past and present – but with one focal point in mind:

“A.R. Gurney focuses on a central idea – an idea which garnered him a Pulitzer Prize nomination in 1985 – the changing customs and values of a culture,” said Gompper.
