Regent University Names Kurt Kreassig As Dean Of The School Of Education
Kurt Kreassig, Ed.D. has been named dean of the university’s School of Education, effective July 1, 2018. Dr. M.G. “Pat” Robertson, Regent’s founder, chancellor, and CEO, made the announcement today.
A 21-year seasoned educational leader, Dr. Kreassig has served as a principal, teacher, coach, and university department chair and is known for innovation, curriculum development, teacher training and support, and improved student performance.
In 2013, Kreassig led the undergraduate teacher education program in the Regent University College of Arts & Sciences from the bottom quartile ranking to #1 in Virginia and at the 95th percentile nationally in 2016 – a ranking that is still maintained by Regent today. Kreassig served as chairman of the elementary education, secondary education, and early childhood education programs and is currently a faculty member in the Regent University College of Arts & Sciences.
“Dr. Kreassig brings years of frontline leadership and problem-solving expertise that is critical to any program training today’s teachers and administrators,” said Robertson. “Regent’s School of Education is known for preparing more than 825 teachers of the year and is a key feeder of this region’s teacher and administrative workforce. Kreassig’s vision for growth and community partnerships will take the school to the next level and beyond this region.”
Prior to joining Regent in 2013, Kreassig served for over five years as principal of Churchland Middle School in Portsmouth, Virginia, a school of roughly 950 students – 70% economically disadvantaged – that he brought to accreditation.
“Dr. Kreassig is known as a builder who strongly believes in academic innovation and community development,” said Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riano, executive vice president for academic affairs at Regent. “His history of developing quality teachers and leaders uniquely qualifies him for this new role as dean.”

Kreassig received his Ed.D. (2007) and his Ed. S. (2001) from The George Washington University, his M.S. Ed. (2000) and Virginia Certification (1996) from Old Dominion University, and his B.S. and B.A. from Longwood College (1990).
Regent is grateful to Dr. Don Finn, who has served as dean for the past three years and is returning to the classroom as an associate professor of education at the university. Dr. Finn’s history of educational leadership development in our region has been an important contribution to the School of Education.
