Dr. William L. Hathaway Receives Gary R. Collins Award for Excellence in Christian Counseling

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Sept. 20, 2023) – The American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) has named Dr. William L. Hathaway the recipient of the 2023 Gary R. Collins Award for Excellence in Christian Counseling in the area of Scholarship and Research.

This distinction is named in honor of the AACC’s first president, Dr. Gary R. Collins. The award is presented to those who work as champions in the field of counseling to provide instruction, mentorship and resources that integrate Biblical integrity with clinical excellence.

“Receiving an award that carries the name of such an innovative trailblazer in Christian counseling is incredibly humbling,” said Dr. Hathaway, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Regent. “The work of the Lord that Dr. Gary Collins accomplished during his life as a Christian counselor, coach, educator, author and more is a guide on how to commit yourself fully to ministry. I am eternally grateful for this honor and will continue to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in service to all in need.”

Dr. Hathaway is a licensed clinical psychologist who has served on the editorial board for multiple professional publications including Psychology of Religion & Spirituality, Spiritualty in Clinical Practice and Journal of Mind & Behavior.

In addition to Dr. Hathaway’s current administrative role at Regent, he has also served as the Dean of the School of Psychology & Counseling, Interim Dean of the College of Healthcare Sciences and enjoyed the privilege of training future psychologists and counselors as a member of Regent faculty.
