Broadcast Education Association Ranks Regent’s Media Programs Among Top in the Nation
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (July 23, 2026) — Regent University’s School of Communication & the Arts (SCA) has been named No. 34 among Top Overall Programs nationwide and the No. 14 Film & Video Program in the 2026 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) School Rankings, which recognize institutional excellence in media based on students’ creative achievements.
In the Film & Video rankings, SCA moved up five places from last year to tie for the No. 14 spot. The school’s rise in the Top Overall Programs category was even more pronounced, jumping 44 spots in only its second year on the BEA charts, propelling Regent to No. 34. The BEA’s rankings are evaluated by analyzing the student outcomes of each institution, assessing the quality and consistency of their creative content compared to others.
The newly released rankings are founded on results from the 2026 BEA Festival of Media Arts, where Regent students, alumni, and faculty earned multiple awards. The annual media competition spans seven categories: Audio, Documentary, Film & Video, Interactive Multimedia & Emerging Technologies, News, Scriptwriting, and Sports. With only the top 20% of entries being considered for an award through BEA’s rigorous evaluation process, the recognition of several Regent community members is an impressive feat.
The continued upward trajectory in the BEA rankings reflects the school’s growing national reputation for producing skilled storytellers, filmmakers, and media professionals from its Virginia Beach campus. That rise places Regent’s SCA ahead of long-established programs at major public and private universities, several with far larger budgets and longer histories in the field.
“These rankings mean a great deal to us, and the reason is simple: they measure the quality of the work our students actually make,” said Simon Tarr, MFA, Ph.D., Dean of Regent University’s School of Communication & the Arts. “To be ranked among the best programs in the country on that basis is the honor I care about most. It belongs to our students.”
The BEA is a premier international academic media organization that advances excellence in media production and career development for educators, students, and professionals across the electronic media landscape. Its annual rankings are among the field’s most closely watched benchmarks for communication, journalism, and film programs nationwide.
“It is wonderful to see the work of our students celebrated in this way,” said Mike Sinclair, Ph.D., Associate Dean of Regent University’s School of Communication & the Arts. “It shows that Regent students are creating professional-quality work that not only stands out among their peers, but also in the wider industry.”
