Ewen Butler, Ph.D.

Bio

Dr. Ewen Butler is appointed as an adjunct assistant professor for the Regent University School of Divinity. He is a Renewal historian and Canadian pastor. Since 2009, he has been the lead pastor at Church on the Hill, Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. Butler has also served as a presbyter, hospital chaplain and leader of the local ministerial network that has spearheaded initiatives to provide housing for lower-income families and to welcome refugees. He holds a Ph.D. in Pentecostal and Charismatic history, an M.Div. in Pastoral Ministry, an M.A. in Theological Studies, and undergraduate degrees in arts and teacher education.

Butler was raised in the classical Pentecostal tradition and is the product of a publicly funded Pentecostal day-school education system in his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is the author of Canadian Winds of the Spirit: Holiness, Pentecostal, and Charismatic Currents, published by Emeth Press, Asbury, KY, in 2018. Butler writes articles for his denominational journal and academic book reviews. He also presents conference papers and is currently collaborating on a project in Pentecostalism and education. Butler is married with two grown sons.
