Greg Jacob, J.D.

Bio

Professor Greg Jacob serves as Senior Associate Dean and Associate Professor at Regent University School of Law. He brings with him to Regent extensive experience in federal service, private practice, and legal education, with particular expertise in constitutional law, legal history, ERISA, labor and employment law, federal litigation, and administrative law.

Professor Jacob previously served in numerous high-ranking positions in the federal government, including as Counsel to Vice President Mike Pence & Deputy Assistant to President Donald J. Trump (2020-2021), Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor (2007-2009), Special Assistant to President George W. Bush on the Domestic Policy Council (2006-2007), Deputy Solicitor of Labor (2005-2006), and Attorney Advisor in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (2001-2004). As the Senate-confirmed Solicitor of Labor, Professor Jacob served as the third-ranking official in the U.S. Department of Labor, managing an office of more than 600 employees in enforcing more than 180 federal labor and employment laws. As Counsel to Vice President Mike Pence, he advised the Vice President on numerous complex constitutional and statutory legal issues pertaining to the scope of the Vice President’s authorities and responsibilities, a subject on which he subsequently testified before Congress.

Prior to joining Regent, Professor Jacob was a partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP for 15 years, litigating and advising on ERISA pension & health benefits, labor & employment law, class and collective actions, and administrative law. Since 2001, he has actively litigated child protection and domestic violence matters on a pro bono basis, and for that work, he has received multiple awards.

A frequent writer and speaker, Professor Jacob has served as the Senior Editor of The Green Bag and as an Editor of the ERISA Litigation Reporter. He previously taught as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason’s Antonin Scalia Law School and its Schar School of Policy and Government.

Professor Jacob earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served on the University of Chicago Law Review, and graduated cum laude from Amherst College. He clerked for Judge Jacques L. Wiener Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He and his wife, Corie, have three children.
