Ethan Ross, MFA
Bio
Professor Ethan Ross received his MFA in Creative Writing from Old Dominion University, having previously studied English-Writing at Spring Arbor University. As a fiction writer, his interests continue to evolve, but his stories often feature introspective characters who are baffled by the irony of undeserved grace. As a reader, he is on a lifelong hunt for odd novels and little-known literary wonders, such as the underappreciated tradition of Christian literary fiction represented by authors like Marilynne Robinson and Frederick Buechner or the sprawling dreamscapes of Mervyn Peake and Jorge Luis Borges.
Professor Ross has taught creative writing and composition classes at Regent and other colleges and has served as an honors college advisor and a co-editor for an undergraduate research journal. Outside of academia, he has worked as a freelance copywriter and editor, as well as a case manager for veterans exiting homelessness. Originally from Michigan, he now lives in Norfolk with his wife and their French bulldog. When he’s not doing literary things, he enjoys cooking unique dishes, running along the Atlantic Ocean, and occasional attempts at visual art.
