Bio

Professor Alex Buffalo enjoys helping others tell their stories. Whether he’s working with clients or students, he sees film and media arts as a visual language used to translate a message into a commercial, animation, or feature film.

While he has worked for some major clients, Professor Buffalo’s favorites are the small mom-and-pop shops — those without Hollywood budgets. When he can help them get their message out effectively and improve their business, he considers that a great success.

Unexpectedly, he found education to be similarly rewarding. After taking a job teaching a college Animation Principles and 2D Animation course more than 23 years ago, Professor Buffalo saw his students pick up on a principle, grow with it, and make something cool. The satisfaction and excitement they experienced in those moments filled him with joy, and he’s been teaching ever since.

Born in the District of Columbia, Professor Buffalo has lived in Germany, Serbia, Russia, France, and several places in the U.S. He is the husband of Jenny, a father of eight children, and a grandfather of two. Three of his oldest children have worked on projects he has produced. Professor Buffalo has also served in church ministry as an Elder, Deacon, and Youth Pastor.

Professor Buffalo’s hobbies include working on cars and motorcycles, sailing, and reading — especially sci-fi and fantasy genres and military or church history. Of course, he also loves to watch movies and animation, though his wife doesn’t enjoy how he notices every production error. Professor Buffalo has a soft spot for bad B-rated films and anything with John Wayne.

Research Interests

  • Race to the Sun: This documentary about open-ocean racing will center around the Regatta Del Sol a Sol, an open regatta for amateur sailors racing from St. Petersburg, FL, to the island of Isla Mujeres. It hopes to shed light on the rigor, strategy, and drive that calls men and women to engage in something so potentially dangerous.
  • The Hearing of the Word: As church membership dwindles and people turn from God, is street preaching a way to take God’s word out to the public? This documentary looks at the biblical call to share God’s word and the impact that men, beginning with the Apostle Paul, had on sharing God’s Holy Word in the public forum.
