Biography
Bruce has been working in the field of writing and journalism for more than 30 years. Originally from Brooklyn, Ohio, he began his professional career in 1974 by writing for several daily and weekly newspapers in South Florida. For a short time, Bruce was founder and publisher of his own monthly magazine, South Florida Today. In 1982, Bruce returned to school because of his desire to become a better and more effective writer. He earned a five-year graduate assistantship at the University of Miami (Florida), receiving his master's degree in 1986 and doctorate in 1988. Bruce has worked at three Christian colleges since his graduation from the University of Miami. In addition, he has served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) during the past two decades and worked in numerous civic organizations. He is the father of two adult children, BethAnn and Brendon. Bruce and his wife Jeannine were called to Regent University in August 2003 and they live in Virginia Beach. They spend their free time visiting their children (BethAnn in Naples, Florida, and Brendon in Canton, Ohio), and traveling. At least once each year, Bruce and Jeannine visit Rome, Italy, where they have many friends and colleagues. Bruce knows that the Lord has blessed his life in countless ways -- from his family to his health to his education. Bruce has has the honor to study with such writers as James Michener, Isaac B. Singer, John D. MacDonald and Evelyn Mayerson. He believes that his calling in life is to share what he has learned with his students. "I want each one of my students to use their talents and gifts to serve the Lord," Swaffield says. "The Lord has placed a calling on their lives and I want to help them fulfill that mission."
