Study Abroad in Mazatlán, Mexico
Study Abroad in Mexico with Regent University
Spend a week serving the people of western Mexico while gaining valuable leadership and mission experience.
Friday, Oct 17 – Friday, Oct 24, 2025
Help us serve the communities of Central Mexico in partnership with Vineyard Ministries.
Application Deadline September 1, 2025
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is pleased to offer a fall study and service trip to Mazatlán, Mexico in partnership with Vineyard Ministries Central Mexico (VMCM).
According to VMCM, there is a growing hunger for the truth of the Gospel and the gift of salvation among the people of western Mexico. At the same time, the physical and material needs of the poor in Mazatlan are tremendous. God is bringing salvation, healing, and hope to this city. They are excited to see and share in His work, and so are we!
Additionally, because Mazatlan is located on Mexico’s west coast, there is also ample opportunity to enjoy God’s creation: sunshine, sandy beaches, and the Pacific Ocean.
VMCM has identified their goals as follows, which are also reflected in their organization, planning, ideals, and outreach opportunities:
- To make the visiting team effective in their outreach.
- To give the visiting team a positive missions experience.
- To bless the poor.
- To bless the church.
- To facilitate fellowship between team members and the Mexican Christians.
The trip is being offered to all Regent students; however, it may also be taken without the coursework by family members and friends interested in the cultural and service experience, if space is available. Students taking either of the study abroad courses associated with this trip (GENE 402 or PRAC 495) for credit will have priority in the application submission.
The Mexico Program Fee is a total of $1487. The non-refundable $500 deposit will be applied toward the $1487. The $1487 is nonrefundable for any reason other than if the trip is canceled.
For Credit: If you are taking this class for credit, the $500 deposit will be applied to your student account. The remaining balance of $987 will be applied to your student account also. If you have federal aid to cover your full student account balance, you do not need to do anything.
Please refer to the Financial Aid Calendar for federal aid disbursement dates. If you DO NOT have federal aid to cover your balance in full, you must either: Pay in full OR enroll in the Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) by the Semester Check-In deadline. Failure to do so could put your registration in jeopardy of being dropped for non-payment. Both payments and enrollment in Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) can be done in your Genysis accounts under the Bill + Payment Center Tab.
For Non-Credit: If you are taking this class for non-credit, you must pay the $500 deposit online by Sept 1, 2025. The remaining amount of $987 must be paid online by Oct 1, 2025.

A Typical Week of Serving with Vineyard Ministries Central Mexico (VMCM): Mazatlán, Mexico
Friday
We will meet at the Norfolk, VA airport and fly out as a group to Mazatlán, Mexico. When we arrive, VMCM will meet us at the airport right outside of customs. Luggage is loaded into a pickup truck and everyone is taken by van to the hotel. The church has done check-in ahead of time and keys to rooms are distributed immediately upon arrival at the hotel. After settling in, VMVM will meet us in the lobby and discuss the schedule for the time we are Mazatlan, with a brief orientation. You have the rest of the day to relax and get comfortable.
Saturday
Outreach Day.
Sunday
We will attend the morning English church service at 9am. Then we will either stay for the Spanish service or go out to colonia church at 11am. After a break in the afternoon, we will attend one of the many smaller colonia church services in the evening. Be prepared to share dramas, testimonies, or kid’s crafts at this service if you would like to.
Monday
Monday is the day off for VMCM staff. Usually, the weekends are full of feeding centers and church services, so they need a relaxing Monday to prepare for the hectic week ahead. This will be your day off as well. Feel free to spend time on the beach, shop in Mazatlan’s historic Centro, or hike up to the top of the lighthouse. Several boogie boards will be at the hotel for you to use.
Tuesday-Thursday
During these days we will do the majority of our outreaches.
Friday
VMCM will load our luggage into a truck and take us back to the airport as a group. We will fly back to Norfolk, VA as a group.
Thank you for your interest in the Mexico Study Abroad trip. Please feel free to contact us utilizing any of the options listed. We look forward to hearing from you and will provide a prompt response to your inquiry.
