Abstract

A great amount of research exists that speaks to the decline in church attendance, Christianity, and an associated rise in non-Christianity. This manuscript sounds a major alarm about that decline, the existence of which should cause all pastors, priests, and church leaders to acknowledge that the research is consistent in its message. An examination is conducted on social changes, where society’s non-acceptance of Christian standards has occurred in multiple countries over the past half century, which church leaders need to understand the causes of the social attitude change to reverse the trajectory of Christianity’s decline.

This manuscript brings to life those pieces of research, with explanations of historically significant social factors contributing to Christianity’s decline, a decline that, if allowed to continue, will bring Christianity to its demise. Historical factors have caused reverberations within society’s normally stable fabric and are contributors to changes in church doctrines, preaching, and societal changes that are now accepted as norms within the Christian church.

This manuscript explores the impacts, over time, of those historical factors along with the technological advances, fashion changes, and the quasi-merging of political and religious ideologies. The exploration herein places the Christian church in opposition to embracing the social reforms demanded within society, reforms that are non-Christian-based, such as homosexuality, female pastoring, and uncensored access to the Internet.

Scripture is presented as the most powerful tool available to churches to redirect social influences toward Christianity, and social media is presented as a powerful means to reach believers worldwide. The interaction of religion with science, technology, and societal influences is intertwined herein with scripture to bring forth the powerful scriptural foundation inherent in Christian churches, for use by all church leaders.
