Regent University Israel Institute Hosts Former Congresswoman Elaine Luria
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 25, 2026) — On March 23, the Regent University Israel Institute welcomed former Congresswoman Elaine Luria to share her insights on the rise of antisemitism and political unrest in the U.S., discussing how to come together and support the Jewish people.
Former Congresswoman Luria, a retired naval officer of 20 years who served as an engineer and commander, served in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., from 2019 to 2023, representing Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Franklin, along with parts of Accomack, Northampton, Isle of Wight, and Southampton Counties.
Attendees gathered in the Robertson Hall Moot Courtroom on Regent’s campus to hear Luria discuss the history of antisemitism and the moral responsibility that people have to confront its injustice in our society.
“History teaches us how easily hatred can grow when it goes unchallenged,” Luria said. “History teaches us that antisemitism rarely begins with violence. It begins with words, it begins with conspiracy theories, it begins with the normalization of prejudice and the quiet acceptance of discrimination.”
Luria urged the audience to challenge antisemitism in society for the sake of justice, mercy, and humility, a cause founded on “defending human dignity and preserving the principles that sustain a free society.”
“It was an honor to have Rep. Luria at Regent,” said A.J. Nolte, Ph.D., Director of the Regent University Israel Institute. “As a champion for bipartisan support for Israel and opposition to antisemitism, her voice provides a powerful reminder that support for Israel and love for the Jewish people unites us more than it divides.”
