Regent University Announces Singer Center for Advocacy
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Dec. 9, 2025) — Regent University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Singer Center for Advocacy at Regent Law, designed to serve as a hub for cultivating the next generation of advocates. The initiative seeks to equip exceptional attorneys who will defend the vulnerable and change the world through a principled pursuit of justice.
The center reflects Regent Law’s deep commitment to advocacy — one of the school’s five core values — and its mission to form practice-ready attorneys who serve others with integrity and purpose.
The Singer Center for Advocacy started as a dream of its founder, Randy Singer, a Regent friend and advocate for over 30 years. Singer has served as Senior Lecturing Fellow, Chairman of the Board of Visitors, Adjunct Faculty Member of the School of Law, and Attorney in Residence. Having tried high-profile court cases and served as the Teaching Pastor at Trinity Church, Singer has dedicated his life to advocacy through various avenues.
“I’ve always seen advocacy as the highest calling,” said Singer. “We’re told that Christ is our advocate, and he advocates for us before the Father, and we’re supposed to be like Christ. When we advocate for someone else, meet their deepest needs, and earn credibility with them, we can impact lives, and we can expand the kingdom.”
These convictions shaped the center’s design and will guide its work. The Singer Center for Advocacy rests on three driving principles:
• Advocacy is a sacred calling: To stand in another person’s place, give voice to their needs, and seek justice on their behalf is a profound trust that demands the highest ethical standards and deep personal commitment. To advocate is to reflect Christ’s work for others — serving real people, seeking truth, and carrying the weight of their cause. Advocates don’t merely have a job; they have a mission, and that mission requires sacrifice.
• Powerful advocates change the world: Effective advocates don’t simply respond to the world as it is. They shape what it becomes. The Center will prepare students for public service and emerging legal fields, equipping them to positively influence courts, culture, and the communities they serve.
• Regent is a natural home for advocacy training: Regent Law has built a strong ecosystem for advocacy through its moot court and trial programs, all on top of a robust faculty mentorship culture. The Center will bring these strengths under one roof, combining rigorous skills training with Regent’s faith-based mission to draw students who want serious preparation for advocacy-driven work across the legal profession.
Central to the center’s mission is cultivating the practical skills essential to legal education. Unlike many graduate disciplines, the study of law is inseparable from the craft of advocacy — the real-world skills that determine how justice is pursued and secured. The center will strengthen Regent’s nationally recognized moot court and trial advocacy programs, provide structured leadership for these teams, and provide advanced training.
In addition, the Singer Center will offer an expanded slate of educational and experiential opportunities, sponsoring advanced courses in trial and appellate practice and cultivating a formal partnership with Singer Hoffman, the Virginia Beach law firm founded by Singer. This partnership will enable students to earn academic credit while working on real cases — including efforts to secure justice for victims of terrorism. The center will also prioritize public service through an initiative led by former prosecutor and Judge Pamela Hutchens, who has established a scholarship for third-year students pursuing public service work.
At a recent fundraising dinner for the Singer Center, former Virginia Governor and Regent Law alumnus Bob McDonnell welcomed guests, and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares led the Pledge of Allegiance. Distinguished legislators, judges, council members, attorneys, business leaders, and community members were among the more than 375 attendees, many of whom shared stories of Singer’s influence on their lives and work.
“Randy Singer embodies the spirit of advocacy like no one I’ve ever known,” said S. Ernie Walton, Dean of Regent Law. “His vision for this Center aligns with Regent’s mission to train advocates who pursue justice with courage, competence, and Christ-centered purpose.”
“My vision for the Center is to teach students how to use the tool of advocacy to expand the kingdom of Christ,” said Singer. “I want our law students at Regent to know that advocacy is a sacred calling, and that advocacy is an instrument to find the truth.”
Renovations for the Singer Center for Advocacy will begin in the coming months, with the Center officially launching and opening its dedicated advocacy hub on Regent’s campus in fall 2026.
