Greece & Italy Study Abroad

May 19-26, 2026

Offered through the Ph.D. in Counselor Education program, this is a special opportunity to study mental health and trauma prevention through a blend of sightseeing and cultural immersion. Explore the ancient ruins of Greece, take a boat trip to the beautiful Greek Islands, and spend time at universities in both Athens and Rome. This trip will build wonderful experiences and memories.

The trip is being offered only to Regent CES students.

The Italy Program Fee is a total of $3,712.50 . The nonrefundable $200 deposit will be applied toward the $3,712.50. The remaining balance will be paid out of your student account in the Fall as a course fee for the CES 752 Spring elective and is nonrefundable for any reason other than if the trip is canceled.

For Credit: The trip cost does not cover the cost for the elective (taking CES 752 is required to participate on this trip)

What is included?

  • Airfare from Athens to Rome
  • Sharing a double room at hotels for 6 nights in Greece & Italy (single room is available for an additional fee)
  • 6 breakfasts, lunches, and dinners while in Greece/Italy
  • Tours of various sites in Athens
  • Boat trip to three Greek islands including Hydra
  • All transportation in country to and from universities, sites, and tours except any excursions that you add on your own
  • Required medical/travel insurance

Above stated price does NOT include:

  • Airfare to Athens, Greece from the US and back to the US from Rome, Italy
  • Optional shopping, taxis, and snacks during travel
  • Safeguarding elective tuition and textbook
  • Cancellation Insurance (optional)

Attendees are responsible for making their own flight arrangements and it is not included in the Greece/Italy Program Fee (only included is the flight From Athens to Rome). Students will need to make sure their tickets from the US are to Athens, Greece and then the ticket back to the US should originate in Rome.

Attendees will need to purchase and provide confirmation of their airline tickets to Dr Compton no later than Sept 1, 2025. If they do not purchase by this date, they may be dropped from the trip and not receive their $200 deposit.

Attendees will stay in two different hotel locations during the Italy trip. These locations will be shared with attendees in their initial orientation meeting mid-October. Transportation to and from hotel locations for all group activities will be provided. Attendees will share a room. Single rooms may be available upon request for an additional cost (to be determined). Please contact the Greece/Italy program director at lisacom@regent.edu for details.

Ensure you have a non-expired passport before your travel plans. You can apply for a passport online or at a number of local agencies including the US Post Office. A VISA is not necessary. To find out more passport information or apply online, visit the U.S. Department of State passport webpage. As a general rule, passports must be valid at least six (6) months beyond the date the traveler will exit the United States. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.

Scholarships pay toward tuition only and do not apply to university fees, or the Greece/Italy Program Fee. Students may enroll in the Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) if they are paying out of pocket to cover this fee.

The GI Bill covers tuition, university fees but NOT the Greece/Italy Program Fee. Please contact the MRC for more info on what the GI bill covers or the financial aid office to ask about the TIP plan. Students may enroll in the Tuition Installment Plan (TIP) if they are paying out of pocket to cover this fee.

This program can be rigorous, and some of the events may require demanding physical activities. Therefore, participants should possess the ability to:

  1. Walk between three to twelve miles each day on cobblestone sidewalks and dirt paths through an open field.
  2. Stand for 30 minutes without sitting.
  3. Climb multiple flights of stairs without assistance. Some hotels and sites likely will not have accommodations such as elevators or rooms on the ground floor.
  4. Hear instructions in a group setting with environmental noise present.
  5. Read and understand written instructions and signs.
  6. Step in and out of buses or shuttles.
  7. Older facilities outside the United States may not offer the same types of disability accommodations that are offered in the United States.
  8. Double check to make sure your medications are legal in Greece/Italy.

Regent University may be unable to provide special accommodation for people with disabilities. If someone needs accommodation or assistance, that person must bring a companion/assistant at full price. Also, those who have a health or mental health condition that may interfere with participation in program activities, need to consult with their physician to determine if they are able to participate in a physically demanding study abroad program. Note that the minimum number of study trip attendees is 17 and the maximum number is 22. The trip will be cancelled should the number of applicants with deposits not reach the minimum by August 30, 2025 and a full refund of payments will be issued. In case of an emergency and the lead faculty member is unable to continue with the class, a designated assistant chaperone will take over and complete the course and trip.

All American citizens are advised to register their time abroad for the trip with the U.S. State Department.

The CES 752 Safeguarding course is required for this trip. Before enrolling in the class, you must submit an application for the program. After you submit your application and pay the $200 deposit, the Greece/Italy Program Director, will send the list of students to Academic Advising to register them in the correct class as a group.

A formal itinerary of all sites and locations will be shared once all attendees are confirmed and deposited. All itinerary locations and activities are subject to change without notice and are not definite depending upon weather, business hours of operation and time. We highly recommend you be prepared for inclement weather and wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you may walk up to twelve miles each day. You are welcome to take a taxi if you desire to various sites on the itinerary. For “Meals on your own” you are welcome to eat at any establishment you desire.
