Professor Serves Community as President of Education Association

October 29, 2009

Regent University School of Education (SOE) Assistant Professor Dr. Don Finn recently began serving his term as president of the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education (VAACE), an association of adults and continuing education practitioners. Finn has served multiple roles in VAACE since 1995, including one term as treasurer and two terms as president-elect.

"The core membership of VAACE is teachers who work with adults who are seeking a high-school diploma, a GED or who want to pursue higher education," Finn said. "My goal as president of VAACE is to build our membership to include affiliate organizations, such as the department of social services and community colleges. With today's economy challenges, we are trying to equip teachers to do more with less—and offer education practitioners practical resources to build their skill-sets."

VAACE serves practitioners who are active in city and county adult programs, extension services, government, industry, health services, higher education and nonprofit organizations. Membership in the association represents an exchange of ideas and information, and provides a forum for new development in the profession.

Finn is a member of SOE's doctoral faculty who specializes in Adult Education and Professional Development. Prior to working for Regent, he was an education faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he developed and delivered professional development programs for university faculty, and adult educators and administrators.
