Regent Alums to Launch New Church in D.C. Metro Area

July 2, 2007

Regent alums Dr. David Stine, Dr. Matthew Stroia and Dr. Julie Reams (also an adjunct in the School of Undergraduate Studies), will launch a new church in Alexandria, Va., on September 9. Joining them is current Regent student David Goochee.

The nondenominational church is described as a God-first church that embodies an accepting atmosphere with relevant environments. Stine, who completed his Master's in Practical Theology from Regent in 2003 and his Doctor of Ministry in 2007, will serve as senior pastor of the new church.

Stine says he and his wife Taryn have prayed about their vision to start a church for nine years. "And we always felt the Lord was leading us to the D.C. area," Stine says.

Stine, Stroia, Reams and Goochee met as a group for the first time on September 11, 2001. "David and I were roommates and we held small group meetings every week at our house," says Stroia. "I knew God was going to do more with our friendship."

Stine, Reams and Goochee also sensed that God had bigger plans for their friendship. "I wanted to be a part of what God was going to do in the D.C. metro area," says Stroia. "I already had a great friendship with David, so I sought God's guidance and allowed him to lead."

Celebration Church, a large nondenominational church in Jacksonville, Fla., where Stine previously served as associate pastor, is partnering with other churches from around the country to help D.C. Metro Church create a real, relevant and enjoyable experience for its members.

"D.C. Metro Church is going to be one of the first steps in rebuilding a God-first culture in the Washington, D.C., metro area," says Stine. "I know that if we put God first in our lives all things will fall into place."

Sunday morning services at D.C. Metro Church will be held at the Potomac Yard Regal 16 Movie Theatres located at 3575 Jefferson Davis Highway. Anyone interested in more information about D.C. Metro Church, or being a part of the launch team, should contact Summer Mobley at smobley@dcmetrochurch.org. The church's website is dcmetrochurch.org.
