On Friday, Oct. 19, Regent University's International Center for Worship (ICW) held an event that will not quickly be forgotten. Hosted by New Life Providence Church in Virginia Beach, Va., Around Your Throne: An Evening of Worship transformed a normal Friday night into a poignant and uplifting time for those who gathered to worship and pray.

Led by artist-in-residence and creative director for ICW, David M. Edwards, the event featured Clem Abrams, director of worship and arts for New Life Providence Church and the New Life Providence choir, as well as Markita Knight, singer and songwriter from West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, Calif.

With several hundred in attendance, Abrams opened with the New Life Providence choir and set the atmosphere. "You could tell that people were ready to worship—they had come with a singular purpose: to lift up the name of Jesus," Edwards said. From there, the night flowed between artists as they shared the stage in worship.

Edwards, who opened with his new radio single, "I Love The Lord," as well as another song from his upcoming project, "We Are Here To Worship," led the audience in a time of worship from the keyboard, and later on, shared ICW's purpose and mission to equip and train worship leaders, musicians and pastors.

Knight, widely known for her work with gospel heavy-hitters Kirk Franklin, Judith McAllister and André Crouch, contributed to the event with several original worship songs and a selection of powerful hymns.

The heartfelt evening wrapped up with both Edwards and Knight, joined by the choir, singing "We All Declare"—a song they had recorded earlier in the year for Edwards' new project.

The main goal of the event was easily achieved through the guidance and synergy of all of the leaders combined. "I am always very careful who we select to minister at our events because we are modeling for other worship leaders and students how to be effective in leading worship and ministering in music," Edwards explained.

The ICW, sponsored by LifeWay Worship, will be presenting the Regent University Day of Worship evening concert on Friday, Nov. 16, in the university's Performing Arts Center. The event will again feature Edwards, Knight and Abrams, as well as a few others.
