Each term, the Veterans
Certification Request Form
must be printed, signed, and submitted to the Registrar's Office.
Regent University only
certifies your enrollment status and academic progress. All
questions concerning eligibility and payment should be directed to the
Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-888-442-4551 or www.gibill.va.gov

Applying for Veterans Educational Benefits
When applying for benefits, the following materials and/or forms are required by the VA to begin the certification process:
All students must submit copies of the following when applicable:
- DD214-report of separation (Chs. 30 & 31)
- Marriage certificate (Ch. 35)
- Birth certificates of dependent children (Ch. 35)
- DD2384-Notice of Basic Eligibility NOBE (Ch. 1606)
- VA Form 21-686C (Chs. 30 & 31)
Applicants under Chapters 30:
- New applicants must complete VA Form 22-1990
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-1995
Applicants under Chapter 31:
- New applicants must contact Voc Rehab case manager and complete VAForm 22-1900
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-1995
Applicants under Chapter 33 (Post 9/11):
- New applicants must complete VA Form 22-1990 (Certifying Official will need a copy of Certificate of Eligibility)
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-1995
Applicants under Chapter 35:
- New applicants must complete VA Form 22-5490
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-5495
Applicants under Chapter 1606 (Reserves):
- New applicants must complete VA Form 22-1990
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-1995
Applicants under Chapter 1607 (REAP):
- New applicants must complete VA Form 22-1990
- Transfer students must complete VA Form 22-1995

Once you have applied to the VA, all applicants must:
- Register for classes
- Submit Veterans
Certification Request
to Regent University Registrar's Office - Submit current copy of Approved Degree Plan to Regent University Registrar's Office
What to Expect After Submitting the Application
- Once the student has registered for classes and submitted a Veterans Certification Request, an Enrollment Certification is sent by the VA Certifying Official to the VA.
- After the application is submitted to the VA, the student is notified directly by the VA regarding confirmation of eligibility.
- The student then receives a "Student Request for Verification" in the mail in order to confirm his/her enrollment. This should be promptly verified and returned to the VA upon receipt. Payment is not sent to the student until this completed form has been received by the VA.
- Payment is sent directly to the student by the VA.
Payment
Your first check should arrive six to eight weeks after the first day of classes or later if the veteran applies for certification after classes have already begun.

Advance Pay - Do I qualify for Advance Pay?
- Advance pay is not available if the student is currently attending or attended the prior term.
- Student must be enrolled for at least 1/2 time.
- Advance pay requests must be submitted no later than 45 days before a semester begins
**After Advance Payment is received from the university, students must sign VA Form 22-1999V and submit to Registrar's Office.
Special message from the VA issued 11/17/09:
The Department of Veterans Affairs has made funds available for Veteran students who are still awaiting their education benefit claim to be processed. Eligible veterans can receive up to a $3000 advance, which will be recouped from future benefit payments. If you are a student who applied for one of VA's education programs and have not yet received your monthly benefit payment for the Fall 2009 term, you can request a one-time advance payment at your local VA Regional Office or through VA's website, www.va.gov.
Direct Deposit
EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) processing, also known as Direct Deposit, is available to recipients of several VA educational benefit programs. To find out if your are eligible to receive your payments via Direct Deposit call 1.877.838.2778.
