Ph.D. K12 School Leadership

Cognate Description:

The K-12 School Leadership cognate is designed for those seeking initial administrative endorsement. Students seeking this add-on endorsement must already hold a professional teaching license, a copy of which is required with the admissions application, and have completed a minimum of three years teaching experience upon program completion. The courses for this cognate have been organized around the six Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) standards and the endorsement competencies for Administration and Supervision preK-12 as issued by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) in preparation for positions as assistant principal or principal. In addition to the required 15 hours of cognate coursework, students must also successfully complete a minimum of 320 administrative internship hours (5 credit hours) followed by the successful completion of the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) for a total of a 62 hour program. Subject to changes in the VDOE's licensure regulations, program adjustments are made accordingly.
