Each year, SCA welcomes an amazing cast of industry professionals. On the pages below, you will discover a few of the many artists and professionals who have shared their lives and experiences with us.
Joe was born and raised in Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University where he discovered two of his passions: his wife Joni and acting! He is most known for his three season recurring role as Pierce on ABC’s hit series Grey’s Anatomy. He also recurs as Jon on HBO’s Looking. Other TV Guest cast appearances include Bones, Castle, NCIS, Southland, House M.D., CSI: NY, Las Vegas, and Mad Men. He even finds time to give back and is very active with education-promoting children’s charities such as Teach for America and Young Storytellers.
Chelsey is an actress, writer and producer in Los Angeles, CA. She currently plays Honey on ABC's Fresh Off the Boat and stars as Jesse in the upcoming romantic comedy Jesse & Naomi. She has recently been seen on New Girl, Mike & Molly, Happy Endings, The Office and The Joe Schmo Show. When not doing comedy, she cries (or dies) on shows such as Rake, NCIS, CSI Miami, Rizzoli & Isles, Journeyman, Threshold, and the award-winning film Reconciliation. Chelsey holds a theatre degree from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and a Shakespeare certificate from The British American Drama Academy. She continues her studies at Steppenwolf West, Stan Kirsch Studios, and the Upright Citizen's Brigade. As a writer and director, she spent a year abroad producing shows for Universal Studios Singapore and Resorts World Sentosa. She currently produces comedic projects with Duchess Riot. She lives in LA with two Chihuahuas who aren’t incredibly fond of one another.
Mary Lou Henner
Currently hosting her own radio show The Marilu Show for GCN (Genesis Communications Network), Marilu has previously hosted and executive produced two talk shows (Marilu and Shape Up Your Life). She has guest-starred on every major talk show, earning her the title “Talk Show Guest of the Year” several years in a row. Her acting career continues to thrive as Marilu appeared in the finale of Two and a Half Men and in two episodes of A&E’s The Glades. She has spoken before Congress on six occasions on various subjects from dietary supplements and women’s cardiovascular disease to deadbeat parents, and she was one of only two private citizens selected to contribute to the shaping of our government’s food pyramid. Marilu is married to Michael Brown, CEO of Browntrout Publishers, and is the busy mother of two teenage boys, Nick and Joey.
Dave Berg was a co-producer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Jay Leno Show (18 years), The O'Reilly Factor, and NBC News. He has also worked as a reporter, anchor, executive producer and bureau chief for various local and network television news organizations. He has written for such publications as USA Today, Reader's Digest, National Review, The Huffington Post, Christianity Today, The Washington Times, The Daily Caller, and Crisis Magazine. He also writes jokes and speeches for politicians, politicos, and other public figures. He was a consultant to the late Frank Pastore and a regular guest on his award-winning radio show in Los Angeles. Dave has a B.A. in political science from Northwestern University and an M.S. in journalism from Kansas State University. He and his wife Mary live in Valencia, Ca. They have two adult children, Melissa and David.
SAFD Certified Teacher
Tim Bell is an SAFD Certified Teacher and a professional actor and stuntman. Tim has been performing, teaching, and choreographing stage combat for more than ten years. He has performed as an actor and stuntman for television and film, live stunt shows, and outdoor dramas. Tim appears as DHS Agent Sanchez and served as assistant stunt coordinator on the film Eyeborgs.
Actor, Director, Producer
Corbin Bernsen stars as Henry Spencer on the USA Network’s hit original series Psych. He was first catapulted to stardom during the 1980s by the hit NBC TV show L.A. Law, and from the late 80’s to early 90’s, he appeared on over 50 magazine covers and earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, hosted Saturday Night Live, and appeared on Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show. More recently, Bernsen has moved to the other side of the camera, writing, directing and producing the films Carpool Guy, Donna on Demand, Dead Air, and Rust. His most recent film, Christian Mingle: The Movie, starring Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) was released in 2014 by Capital.
Originally hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Paul Burke is a full member of Stunt Guild Ireland and an instructor with the Irish Dramatic Combat Academy. He has done choreographed fights for theatre, television, and movies. Theatre fight choreography includes Ages of the Moon (world premiere) by Sam Shepard, National Theatre of Ireland and Off Broadway, Billy Roche's Lay Me Down Softly (world premiere) directed by Wilson Milam and Last Days of a Reluctant Tyrant by Tom Murphy. In 2008 Paul was fight coordinator and consultant for the Irish television docudrama Feuds, which covered the modern Irish Traveler/Tinker communities' clan rivalries that commonly result in bare knuckle boxing matches and can lead to all out faction fights. Recent film/TV work includes Vikings on the History Channel. Paul was also assistant coordinator to Richard Ryan in the film Hammer of the Gods.
T. Fulton Burns
Director of Acting & Performance
Fulton Burns is the director of acting and performance at the University of South Alabama's Department of Dramatic Arts. Prior to his arrival at USA he instructed at The University of Montana and Illinois College. He attended Winthrop University where he earned his BA in Theatre and completed his graduate work at Western Illinois University (MFA) specializing in Directing for the Stage. His directing credits include, but are not limited to, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Compleat Wrks of WLLM SHKSPR: abridged, The Serpent, and Man of La Mancha. He has received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's Certificate of Merit for his work as a Director with Amadeus and Anything Goes.
Also, Burns has collaborated with The Living Theatre, worked professionally with Moises Kaufman as an assistant director and with Cirque du Soleil's production of Quidam.
Jill Matarelli Carlson
SAFD Certified Teacher
Jill Matarelli-Carlson, an SAFD Certified Teacher, is an assistant professor at East Carolina University and teaches movement, stage combat, acting, and theatre history. She has worked as an entertainment cast member for Walt Disney World and co-founded The Odyssey Express Touring Theatre Company. Jill has worked professionally all over the United States as both an actor and fight choreographer.
SAFD Master Instructor/Coreographer
Michael G. Chin is a professional actor (AEA, AFTRA, SAG) and a sanctioned master instructor and choreographer with the Society of American Fight Directors. He is a student of Northern Style, Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu. Chin serves as fight director in residence for both The White Horse and Pan Asian Rep in NYC. He has taught/choreographed/consulted in the NYC area on Broadway, NYU, The Public, and The Classical Theatre of Harlem. Nationally he has worked at the Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre, Brown University, and Yale School of Drama, among others. Chin currently teaches at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, Juilliard, and also teaches privately for Fights4, all in New York City.
Fran Clabaugh began her Hollywood career as an assistant editor at Action International Pictures where she quickly gained an understanding of the art of action editing. Since then she has worked as a full editor on the action feature Little Chicago and the sci-fi action thriller Eyeborgs. She has conducted editing workshops for the Jacksonville Film Festival and is co-owner of Crimson Wolf Productions, an independent production company located in North Carolina. She edited the feature film Nightmare Box, shot in London, England by director Jon Keeyes.
Richard Clabaugh has been a cinematographer and director on numerous features and worked with such talents as Russell Crowe, Viggo Mortensen, Christopher Walken, Ben Affleck, and Peter O'Toole. He was the director of the feature films Python, Little Chicago, and Eyeborgs. Richard is an instructor at the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking and president of Crimson Wolf Pictures, a North Carolina based feature film production company.
Co-founder of The Hollyood Prayer Network, Producer
Karen is a television producer, director of the Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN), and co-founder and producer for JC Productions, an independent television and music production company. She has had extensive experience producing TV specials, documentaries, and children's programming. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America, a founding member of PREMISE, and a board member of the Biola University Media Task Force.
SAFD Certified Fight Master
Dale Girard is a certified fight master with the SAFD and Fight Directors Canada (FDC). He is also co-founder of the North Carolina Stuntmen's Association, author of Actors on Guard, and director of stage combat studies for North Carolina School of the Arts. Dale appears in the role of Sankur and served as second unit director and stunt coordinator for the film Eyeborgs. He is currently serving as stunt coordinator on Gary Wheeler's The Trial starring Matthew Modine.
SAFD Certified Teacher and Theatrical Firearms Instructor
Kevin Inouye (SAFD certified teacher and theatrical firearms instructor and workshop assistant coordinator) is a theatre instructor and SAG-AFTRA performer, who also serves as an assistant professor of acting, movement, stage combat, and other theatre topics at the University of Wyoming. He is an award-winning fight choreographer and sole proprietor of Fight Designer, LLC. Kevin’s first book The Theatrical Firearms Handbook was released in 2014 with Focal Press.
Robert G. Lee
Actor, Comedian, Screenwriter
Robert G. Lee is already known in the entertainment industry as Hollywood’s top warm-up comic. This veteran of 1,000 episodes of such shows as The New Adventures of Old Christine, Just Shoot Me, Becker, and The Drew Carey Show is considered to be the reigning king in this very specialized profession. Robert has written, produced, and starred in six stand-up comedy specials and has been seen on the Bananas Comedy series, on Showtime’s The Joke’s On Thee, VH1’s Stand Up Spotlight, Comic Strip Live, and a variety of roles on such sitcoms as Wings and Perfect Strangers. He has also written many Veggie Tales videos such as Little Joe, Gideon, and Sheerluck Holmes.
Ronald F. Maxwell is an independent film director and writer from Clifton, New Jersey. He is most famous for writing and directing the American Civil War epics Gettysburg (1993) and Gods and Generals (2003). His 2013 film Copperhead freshly extended that mural into the more intimate realm of small town American life, where the conflicts hundreds of miles from the battlefields are no less vigorous or heart-breaking. Maxwell graduated from New York University (NYU) Institute of Film in 1970. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Actor, Director, Producer
John Ratzenberger is an actor, director, and producer. John’s work for Pixar, as well as his parts in Superman and The Empire Strikes Back, makes him the 6th most successful actor of all time, as measured by a total box office of over $3,000,000,000. Ratzenberger is also best known for playing mail carrier Cliff Clavin on the sitcom Cheers. He produced and hosted Made in America, a show for the Travel Channel, which established a television precedent and led the way for a new series of shows including Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, and more.
Richard is an award winning fight director. His credits include stunt coordinator on Ironclad, Rolling Thunder, and Faintheart, fight coordinator on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Gulliver's Travels, Sherlock Holmes, The Dark Knight (winner SAG Best Stunt Ensemble and Taurus Stunt Award Best Fight). He was swordmaster on The Eagle, Solomon Kane, Drona, The Last Legion (nominated for Taurus Stunt Award). Perhaps his best-known film work is Troy, for which his Achilles versus Hector fight was nominated for Best Fight in both Taurus World Stunt Award and MTV Film Awards. “Master-at-Arms” to The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he has accumulated over 300 stage credits and has worked for many major companies such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre of Ireland, Royal National Theatre, Cheek by Jowl, English National Opera, Royal Opera House, York Theatre Royal and Mercury Theatre, Colchester along with various West End shows and National Tours.
Martial Arts Instructor
Dave White is a certified instructor in Wing Chun Kung Fu and has been teaching for over 20 years. He is a 26 year law enforcement veteran and served as a "point-man" on a hostage rescue team. He has taught and created programs for many law enforcement and military groups. He has worked as a tactical consultant for the Discovery Channel's Spy Tech, Dominion Pictures, and The FBI Files. Dave has also worked on many student films at Regent University. He will be continuing his training in acting at The Actor's Place in Virginia Beach, VA. Along with acting he has written, acted in, and directed a small film titled Wiseman that will showcase local actors and his non-classical version of Wing Chun in several fight scenes. He is working towards starting a business that involves self-defense, fitness, and a program to teach actors tactics and fighting skills for film.

Mike Yahn is a certified teacher through the Society of American Fight Directors, a partner in Combat Incorporated, and a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He is known for his work in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), and Sherlock Holmes (2009). Moreover, his fight choreography has been seen at Second Stage Theatre, Playwrights Horizons Theatre, Theatre for a New Audience, the New York Film Academy, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York University, NYC Fringe Festival, the New England Shakespeare Festival, Close Combat Instructional Videos, and the Pirates of the Caribbean toy commercials. Hooked on stage combat ever since he saw Fight Master J. David Brimmer pretend to destroy a man's face with an invisible cannon ball, Mike has worked as Brimmer's assistant both on and off Broadway in such productions as Spring Awakening the Musical, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Bug, and Speed the Plow. He is also an instructor of Wing Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu, traveling from Hong Kong to Budapest studying the art (including a demonstration on Discovery Channel's Fight Quest). He currently runs his own branch of City Wing Tsun in NYC's East Village.

Craig D. Forrest (born July 13, 1956) is an American filmmaker best known for producing, directing, and lensing shows, stories and documentaries that often have involved difficult or dangerous overseas locations while exploring unique subjects ranging from voodoo to the Holocaust to silent film. Forrest's projects for notable TV and cable networks have been considered diverse in that his body of work encompasses various genres across a broad spectrum, including non-fiction, investigative journalism, sports, music and journeys of faith. Various projects and shows he has produced or directed have earned numerous video awards, most notably a CINE Golden Eagle.
Producer, Founder of Fusion Productions, SCA Alumnus
Fusion Productions was founded in 1990 by Todd Sims and his wife Gina M. Sims. Todd, two months out of college, and Gina, just starting her junior year, acquired the rights to a small local cable television series for only $600. The Brownwood Lion Football Review was Fusion Productions' first venture into professional video production. They turned a profit through ad sales and went on to produce and direct two additional television news programs, one being selected for a national ACTS award. Since then, Fusion Productions has produced numerous projects in the U.S. and abroad, earning thirty domestic and international awards for excellence in production.
Screenwriter, Book Author, SCA Alumna
Cheryl McKay has been professionally writing since 1997. She wrote the screenplay for The Ultimate Gift, based on Jim Stovall’s novel. The award-winning film that stars James Garner, Brian Dennehy, and Abigail Breslin was released in theaters by Fox in 2007. The film won a Crystal Heart Award at the Heartland Film Festival, received three Movieguide nominations, winning one of the Ten Best Family Films of 2007, and won a CAMIE Award for one of the Top Ten Films of the year. Cheryl also wrote the DVD for Gigi: God’s Little Princess, another book adaptation based on the book by Sheila Walsh, as well as the Wild and Wacky, Totally True Bible Stories audio series and books with Frank Peretti. She wrote a half-hour drama for teenagers about high school violence, called Taylor’s Wall. It was produced in Los Angeles by Family Theater Productions. She wrote a script called Greetings from the Flipside, commissioned by Art Within, after winning a year-long fellowship. It was adapted into a novel for B&H Publishing (with Rene Gutteridge). Her screenplay, Never the Bride, has been adapted into a novel for Random House Publishers and was released in June 2009. The film version is in development. She also wrote the screenplay for A Friend for Maddie.
