Following a three-decade career of public service that included four years as attorney general of the United States, six years in the U.S. Senate and eight years as governor of Missouri, John Ashcroft joined Regent in 2005, giving students the rare privilege of being mentored by a leader known for confronting tough issues in law and government.

"It's an honor for me to have an opportunity to again devote my life in some measure to education and to young people and students. There is no more noble pursuit than that of investing in the future."

Regent students are privileged to learn from one of the world's most respected leaders. Admiral Clark retired from the Navy in 2005, having made his mark on more than just that military branch, but also on his nation. The former Chief of Naval Operations directed the Joint Staff's Crisis Action Team for Desert Shield and Desert Storm and is considered a visionary with a bold, purposeful approach to leadership. Clark attributes his success to investing in human capital.

David Gyertson David Gyertson, Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship Opens a new browser window

This former Regent University president returned to Regent in 2005 having also served as president of Taylor University and Asbury College. Gyertson has hosted a nationally syndicated religious news program, sits on numerous executive boards and is a highly sought after business and ministry consultant.

"This role allows me to be laser focused. I see this as an opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of Christian leaders ... to ensure that our students leave with a master plan for life."

Born and raised in India, Dr. Burgess is passionate about changing the world with an international focus to meet the needs of Regent's diverse student body. He was instrumental in implementing the doctoral curriculum around Regent's Ph.D. program in Renewal Studies and is a widely published author.

"I believe in purposefully encouraging a multi-cultural [academic] approach so that we do not westernize or homogenize foreign students."


Louis Gallien Louis Gallien, Education Opens a new browser window

Dr. Gallien's research findings have significantly served the African American community. He came to Regent in 2001, after teaching at several universities, including Wheaton College and Spelman College, and was a Visiting Scholar at Oxford-Brookes University in Oxford, England. Gallien has co-edited and authored several books on instructing and mentoring African American college students.

"When you begin to understand mortality and legacy, you begin to reproduce. I can think of few things as rewarding as influencing the brilliant minds of the doctoral candidates who are attracted to Regent."

A nationally recognized researcher and author in the field of special education, Kavale has written 250 books, chapters and articles during his 30-year career. He is especially noted for his ground-breaking studies in the identification and classification of learning disabilities and, in 2002, he helped rewrite the nation's special education policies.

"Regent supports and encourages my involvement in research at all levels. This gives my students access to a professor who is up-to-date on the most innovative ideas in this field of study ... a tremendous attraction to students who desire to impact, to really change education."

Dr. Selig came to Regent in 1980 as a founding professor of special education. He has helped launch the distance-learning program and expand the number and types of degrees offered. Dr. Selig is a leader in the development of the regulations for special education both at the state and federal level. He has written extensively in parenting, relationships and individual differences.

"What advice would I give to aspiring leaders? Learn to love - no matter who people are or what their title or station is in life."

A seasoned researcher and author, Dr. Twelftree has some one hundred books, articles and reviews to his credit. He has served on several boards, including the Institute for Biblical Research and Journal for the Study of Historcial Jesus and is a member of the prestigious Tyndale Fellowship, Cambridge, UK. Twelftree is also a part of the Third Quest for the Historical Jesus movement, a scholarly attempt to discover the true identity and message of Jesus.
