The Virginia Bar Association Law School Council (VBA LSC) at Regent facilitates connecting Regent Law students with both the state and local bar associations. It is a branch of the Virginia Bar Association through its Young Lawyers Division. The mission of the Virginia Bar Association remains as timely today as it was in 1888, when the Association was founded. Its goals to promote the highest professional standards, work to improve the law and the administration of justice, and advance collegial relations among lawyers has contributed to its rich heritage. Moreover, as a voluntary association, it is free to initiate public service projects free from the legal constraints applicable to a mandatory bar.

The VBA LSC hosts various networking and service events throughout the school year. To be notified of upcoming events, become a member of the VBA LSC by emailing vba@mail.regent.edu from your Regent student email account. Membership is free! VBA LSC members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the unique opportunity to join the official Virginia Bar Association for free by filling out the short application found on the VBA’s website.

The Virginia Bar Association Law School Council (VBA LSC) at Regent facilitates networking events throughout the school year with law students and local attorneys in the Hampton Roads community. A recent study by Feeding America found that more than 1 million Virginians are considered “food insecure.” A collaboration among the Office of the Attorney General, The Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks assists in filling that need. The three groups joined efforts in 2007 to create the statewide Legal Food Frenzy—a food and fund drive among all Virginia law firms and organizations. In this friendly competition, the law firm, school, or organization that donates the most receives the Attorney General’s Cup. Since the competition began, the legal community has collected and contributed 8.5 million pounds of food for needy Virginians. Virginia’s Legal Food Frenzy model is now being used in Massachusetts, Georgia and other states.

The VBA LSC at Regent is proud to partner with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and help stamp out hunger in the Hampton Roads community. For more information or any questions, please contact Madeline Jones at madejon@mail.regent.edu.
