Construction Underway for Regent University’s Athletic & Fitness Center

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (June 24, 2026) — Regent University’s new Athletic & Fitness Center is under construction on Regent’s campus in Virginia Beach. The foundation for the main athletic building is now in place, underslab utilities are complete, and the building structure is set to rise above ground in the weeks ahead.

“Great things are underway this summer at our Athletic & Fitness Center,” said Jeffrey W. Ganthner, DSL, Architect in Residence at Regent University. “Our construction team has been enjoying excellent weather as we are working on completing building foundations and site utilities. In early August, you will see the main building go vertical as the walls are erected and the structural steel is installed. The entire project team is working really well together with the goal to deliver this project by Fall 2027.”

As the project’s most complex and time-intensive element, the main athletic building is the first construction priority, followed by the main stadium. Additional elements of the site will emerge as construction progresses.

The 31-acre sports complex will include a 2,000-seat NCAA championship arena, a state-of-the-art varsity weight room and fitness center, an atrium with a café and student lounge, a sports medicine clinic, baseball and softball stadiums, a 400-meter outdoor track, a multi-sport soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, and pickleball courts.

In addition to world-class athletic facilities, the outdoor experience will also be a highlight. A series of walking paths will wind through the property, connecting plazas and gathering spaces in a thoughtfully designed landscape. At the heart of the sports complex, a pond encircled by beautiful plants promises to be a place to walk and reflect, offering the entire Regent community a new, vibrant campus destination.
