Past Events

December 8, 2008:  Annual Cram Jam

As a stress-reliever for law students at the beginning of the finals period, SBA hosts the “Cram Jam” each semester. Typically held in the Ordinary, students receive a meal and fun for free. Previous years have featured professors dishing out eggs and pancakes to students, a baseball theme with hotdogs and pizza, and a “drive-in theatre” theme featuring a movie with hotdogs and milkshakes. One can only imagine what awaits students this year!

November 17, 2008:  Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless

A tradition at Regent Law, the Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless is an excellent opportunity for the law students to reach out to the community. Students typically provide everything for the meal: from turkeys and all the trimmings to dessert, Regent law students provide the homeless with a feast in the Library Atrium! Elementary students from the area join in the fun by providing decorations. Local shelters are invited to come be served by students.  This year, we hope to have a craft table for the kids and more entertainment provided by students.

November 6, 2008: SBA Preview Weekend Reception

A reception for prospective students will be hosted by SBA the first night of preview weekend, allowing prospective students to interact with student leaders in a relaxing setting on the Library Balcony.

October 31, 2008:  Pumpkin Carving Contest

In conjunction with the Chili Bowl, SBA is hosting its first pumpkin carving contest for law students! Teams will have a maximum of 30 minutes to carve their pumpkins. Come out and see them on Friday, Oct. 31! Judging will take place at 1:30.

Breat Cancer Awareness Day (sponsored):  Oct. 15, 2008

Working in conjunction with BLSA, SBA sponsored a table day to raise awareness about breast cancer and also to raised money for breast cancer research!

"Hotdogs for the Homeless":  Oct. 14, 2008

The 2nd Annual “Hotdogs for the Homeless” event was a success! SBA representatives sold hotdogs, chips, and sodas in the Library Quad to raise money for the Samaritan House, a non-profit organization that helps homeless families and battered women and children. This year was a great success—raising almost $100 more than last year!

Step Out for Diabetes:  October 4, 2008

Knowing that diabetes affects millions of Americans, a group of students from Regent participated in the local Step Out, raising money for the American Diabetes Association.  For more information on “Step Out,” please visit http://www.diabetes.org/stepout.

Regent Law Dat at Busch Gardens:  September 13, 2008

In order to facilitate fun away from both the law school and Virginia Beach, SBA sponsored “Regent Law Day at Busch Gardens,” creating an event which we hope will continue as an annual event each fall!

Mentor/Mentee Lunch:  September 10, 2008

Each fall, SBA matches up volunteer 2L and 3L mentors with 1L students at a (Chick-Fil-A) lunch in order to facilitate relationships between the classes, help the 1Ls transition into law school life, and aid them with study skills and coursework. As opposed to the past two years, this event was moved up in the semester by about 6 weeks to allow for students to start interacting as soon as possible and foster mentor/mentee relationships. It was a great success with an estimated 75% or more of students participating!

Student Organization Day:  Sept. 9, 2008

This year, the Executive President organized the First Annual Law Student Organization Day, held the third week of school. Working with student leaders from each of the law school student organizations, the event was an astounding success as all organizations participated. The week before Student Organization Day, 1Ls were given a booklet published by SBA that provided information on all the student organizations and contact information for the leaders as well. As such, 1Ls could know which groups they were most interested in prior to coming to the event. Additionally, the event gave 2Ls and 3Ls the opportunity to sign-up or renew memberships for all organizations in a single day. Further, having this event saved organizations money on interest/informational lunches and cut down on conflicting events at the beginning of the semester.
