Joint Degrees and Nondegree Admission Requirements

Joint Degrees

Sometimes students desire to pursue more than one graduate degree at Regent University. The most popular joint-degree option is adding the M.A. in Human Services Counseling to another degree program. With its focus on teaching counseling skills to professionals in various areas of employment, it makes a great addition to a law, divinity or education degree. The School of Psychology & Counseling (SPC) does not reduce the 30 credit hours needed to complete the program, although the other school may reduce its requirements by up to 20 percent. Our other master’s degrees are available as well, but again, cannot be reduced.

Joint Degrees — New Applicant Procedure

An applicant who has never been admitted to Regent should follow the regular application process for both programs in which admittance is sought. The applicant should indicate on each application his or her desire to be admitted in two schools. In addition to the admissions pieces required for each school, please submit the Joint Degree Form for New Applicants to the primary school.

Nondegree Applicants

Applicants who do not intend to obtain a degree may be accepted on a nondegree basis. Nondegree students are not eligible to receive financial aid and may enroll in courses on a space-available basis. In addition, they must demonstrate that they have the necessary prerequisites for the course they desire and have the permission of the course instructor before registering. Nondegree students are limited to a maximum of 12 credits. They may not enroll in experiential courses such as practicum or internship. Nondegree students may be accepted for Psy.D. courses only by permission of the program director. Applicants seeking nondegree status must meet the published entrance requirements and must submit the following in the application packet.

1. Regent University Online Application.
2. A copy of your transcript indicating the latest degree conferred.
3. Complete an Academic Background Questionnaire.
4. Admissions interview (if needed).

A maximum of 12 Regent credits may be allowed toward a degree if a nondegree student later applies for regular degree-seeking status. The applicant must submit the additional material required for degree status. The admissions committee will consider the application in the same way it would a new applicant.
