Dr. Julie Reams has been involved with a church plant, Metro Church, in Alexandria for the past ten years that was planted by several Regent students, and now numbers 4,000 members. She is the pastor of spiritual formation, where she oversees discipleship, including small groups, pastoral care and prayer. She wrote the Growth Track curriculum, which includes spiritual growth classes (101- Spiritual Formation, 201- Purpose, 301- Freedom, and 401- Leadership) that take students through systematic discipleship in the context of the local church.
She has a B.A. in Communication and Christianity from Mercer University (including a study abroad program at Oxford University with a focus on the works of C.S. Lewis), an M.A. in Practical Theology and an M.A. in Human Services Counseling from Regent University. She received her Doctorate of Ministry in Leadership and Renewal from Regent University, with a concentration in Spiritual Formation. She wrote her dissertation on “Cultivating Intimacy with God in Postmodern Young Adult Women,” examining how the church can reach the next generation by returning to a focus on the spiritual disciplines and teaching young adults how to encounter God for themselves.
She has distinguished herself as an adjunct, with a specific focus on practical theology. She focuses on pastoral ministry, spiritual formation and Christian spirituality. She spent several years on the mission field with Youth with A Mission and has traveled to 31 countries, including leading biblical tours of Israel and retracing the footsteps of the Apostle Paul in Greece and Turkey. She has a passion for discipleship and helping equip the next generation of leaders with deep spiritual roots so they can walk in their God-given, Kingdom purpose.
