James A. Davids, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Associate Professor James Davids brings nearly 30 years of practical legal experience to Regent Law. After graduating from Duke University School of Law, Davids returned to his hometown of Chicago, where he practiced law for 25 years, primarily in the fields of medical malpractice trial work and administrative law litigation. After being a name partner in a Chicago law firm for 15 years, he accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Justice, where he helped design and provide legal advice for the Faith-Based & Community Initiatives.

Upon leaving the Justice Department, he taught at Regent's Northern Virginia campus for one year before relocating to Virginia Beach to serve as administrative dean and professor in the Robertson School of Government. His expertise in online education led to his role in designing and implementing the online version of Regent's LL.M. in American Legal Studies. His initiative created the Law School's M.A. in Law program. Davids still teaches Constitutional Law in the School of Government, other courses in the School of Law, and many courses in the M.A in Law Program.

Davids has been a member of the Christian Legal Society (CLS) for over 40 years, and he served as its president for several years. He also served for two years as CLS' Legislative Counsel, for which he lobbied on Capitol Hill for pro-life and religious liberty bills. Davids has also served as president of several volunteer organizations, ranging from Christian schools to local political organizations, and public policy groups to neighborhood associations. He is married with four children, and five grandchildren.
