Mentorship: In the Classroom and Beyond

Our distinguished professors share a role in your learning and serve as shepherds in your continued success. Illustrations of their guidance and mentorship can be found at The Cornerstone, the official faculty blog of our university and source of inspiration for Christian students and leaders like Dr. Corné Bekker, Professor of Biblical and Ecclesial Leadership in Regent University's School of Business & Leadership. The following excerpt reflects just a glimpse of his and other faculty's insights.

"Christian leaders are marked by a different set of behavioral values and leadership measurements than the world. True leadership is not measured by the mere effects of our activities to lead, it is ultimately judged by our intentions to obey God's Word … I am increasingly persuaded that an authentic Christian leadership can only be formed by turning our eyes once again to the example of Jesus. Only when we have what the Apostle Paul called 'this attitude of Christ,' then our leadership will be marked by self-emptying, servanthood, humaneness, humility and obedience. Nothing less would be Christian leadership that can change our world."

I had just returned from a nine-month Navy deployment and my daughter rushed into my arms. After squeezing the daylights out of me, she thanked me for always finding the time to talk to her via phone or email every week while I was deployed.

Clarin G.

I was chosen to work as an intern on Capitol Hill in Congresswoman Kay Granger's office. As part of my internship, I communicated with constituents and legislative assistants, and led Capitol tours. I was energized by this environment and found myself wanting to refine my skills in effective public communication.

Sam D.

When a local college heard of the expertise I received from my doctoral studies in global leadership at Regent University, they invited me to develop and lead a three-day global leadership workshop for international students in 2010 and 2011. What a privilege!

I've been homeschooling my three oldest children for the past four years now. I'm also a part-time student at Regent University and a Sunday school teacher at my church. I thank God for continually renewing my strength and for blessing my loved ones and me!

Mariah M.

Here I am during my 2009 Phi Theta Kappa Fall Leadership Conference. We were toward the end of the day, after spending about six hours outside pulling weeds at a special needs camp to get it ready for the upcoming campers. This was definitely a life-changing day for me.

Crys A.

I volunteer for a nonprofit organization that goes out into the streets and brings basic toiletries and bag lunches to the homeless. I don't think it's just about providing the homeless with food — it's about human interaction. I'm changing the world by feeding one homeless person at a time.

Lisa N.

I survived stage-one breast cancer and now compete in bodybuilding/fitness and have placed fifth in two shows and fourth in the third show. My goal is to motivate, inspire and encourage anyone that has ever suffered an illness or a difficult challenge in life.

Linda F.

Using my skills and energy to help friends start up a new nonprofit in our little town, integrating writing, music ministry at multiple regional nursing homes and teaching children art.
