Provides learners with research-based knowledge and skills necessary to analyze exemplary curricula and appropriate assessment practices including familiarity with the Virginia Standards of Learning, informative feedback mechanisms, and school system implementation. Students consider proper selection and use of materials including media and computers while evaluating the process and implementation of school-based curriculum design, as well as the linkage between assessment data and instructional design. Demonstrate proficiency in planning, implementing and evaluating instruction for diverse classrooms. Repeatable for credit.
One semester (500-hour) supervised student teaching field placement experience in an appropriate classroom setting.
Explores the physical, cognitive, cultural, social/emotional, spiritual, and psychological development of children and adolescents with an emphasis on knowing and understanding theories of human development to incorporate children's individual differences and guide learning experiences. Considers individual differences (socio-economic, racial, ethnic, religious, physical and mental) with the approximate timing and effects of age-related changes and at-risk factors such as attention deficit disorder, substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, and family disruptions on normal development. Analyzes children within the context of family, culture and community. Emphasizes the importance of partnership with families and communities in the teaching and learning process. Study of the foundations of education in the U.S. Explores the historical, philosophical, and sociological development and organization of American education. A portion of the course is devoted to education and the law -- both federal and state -- and to the legal status of teachers and students. Establishes a philosophical foundation of education and surveys various worldviews that affect education today. Contemporary issues in education are examined, such as class management, as well as reflection of personal educational philosophies, attitudes, and aptitudes for teaching. Professional growth and a commitment to life-long learning are emphasized. Cross-listed with UED 442.
For those who have not had prior experience in formal biblical and theological studies. Basic instruction in biblical and theological research methods at the beginning of your course of study. Offered through the library's biblical and theological librarian.

Step 2: Submit your Unofficial College Transcripts*
We are able to examine and view your unofficial transcript from a U.S.-based school, which indicates successful completion of a bachelor's degree program, in order to review you for an admissions decision. Please submit your unofficial transcript to our Admissions Office by email to email@example.com using the subject line: SOE Master's Application Pieces.

Step 3: Complete Your Admissions Survey
In lieu of the previously required writing sample, please complete a brief admissions survey based on your professional goals and interests. This should only take a few minutes to complete but please answer the questions completely and thoughtfully. This gives us a better opportunity to get to know you and align your objects with our programs. The admissions survey can be found here. Once completed, it will be sent directly to an enrollment counselor who will be in touch with you right away to help complete the rest of your application.
Step 4: VCLA & Praxis Scores
The following assessments meet the requirement for the prescribed test for entry into a Virginia teacher preparation program. Please choose from one of the following options and submit passing scores directly to Regent University. Regent ETS code: 5135

Step 5: Admissions Interview
If an interview is necessary, the admissions office will contact you to schedule an appointment. The interview can be conducted on campus or over the phone and typically takes about 20 minutes.
Step 6: VDOE Content Courses
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requires that all incoming Elementary Education Program applicants meet the VDOE Content Course Requirements. Therefore, all Elementary Education Program applicants must undergo a transcript review to ensure that all VDOE requirements are met.

Background Check: Because the program includes direct contact with students in field experiences, applicants to the M.Ed. in Elementary Education program must submit a background check. Regent University’s School of Education has entered into an agreement with Certified Background/Castle Branch (CB), a private vendor that conducts background checks for many universities and educational institutions. After you are admitted into the program, you will be provided instructions on how to set up an online profile with Certified Background and request your background check. Learn more.
First Aid/CPF/AED Training: Documentation that verifies completion of certification or training in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). The certification or training program shall be based on the current national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator, such as a program developed by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
