In a congenial ceremony marking Regent University's continued commitment to serve the military, President-elect Dr. Carlos Campo and Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) Commandant Brig. Gen. Marin T. "Tom" Smoot, Jr. signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.
The MOU agreement, which originated in 2002, confirms a partnership between Regent and JFSC that will combine military education with civilian education.
"Regent is an important partner in the Hampton Roads community, particularly with the military," Campo said during the ceremony. "We believe there are synergies in terms of who we are as a university and who you are as military, and we want to continue to build on those synergies. We also want to say thank you for leadership, service to our country and to our families...we believe that this is part of the continuum as we move forward."
Smoot emphasized the importance of the values Regent and JFSC share. "I notice that the university produces great American citizens who do wonderful things for our nation and world," he said. "Our college looks at the importance of not only academic backgrounds, but also what it means to go out and make a difference. We look forward to a long relationship that will result in great leadership."
