Monday, October 28, 2019, marked the passing of Dr. Hope Marie Jordan, a beloved professor in the School of Education for over 20 years. Jordan was the chair for both the Exceptional Educational Executive Leadership and Reading Specialist & Special Education programs. Her background as a K-12 special and general educator provided practical expertise in her roles as a professor and consultant. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues and the many students and interns whom she impacted at Regent and around the world.

Jordan contributed much to her field during her 40+ years as an educator. Her experiences helped to enhance Regent’s programs, equipping K-12 teachers and leaders with stronger skills and knowledge. Also, her work in teacher/leader preparation resulted in developing thousands of instructors and administrators in the field who are better prepared to teach and lead 21st century students.

She was a published author of many books and articles, such as Princesses Don’t Get Cancer, Ladies Who Lead and Leadership Bloopers and Blunders, to name a few. She enjoyed writing children’s books best. Millions and Billions and Zillions of Lady Bugs was her most recent. Jordan had a fierce dedication to her three grandchildren and two children.

According to her colleagues, this Scripture best reflects Jordan’s journey: “… let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). She ran her race well and was instrumental in helping students and friends accomplish their goals.

“Hope Jordan exemplified our mission … Christian Leadership to Change the World,” expressed Dr. Kurt Kreassig, dean of the School of Education (SOE). “Dr. Jordan was so kind-hearted and such a giving person. She was completely dedicated to her students. Teaching was her passion. She will always be remembered as an integral part of Regent’s School of Education. She will be missed dearly,” said Dr. Katie Goldman, SOE’s director of Academic Services.

A memorial service will be held at the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, by the Reverend Ernie Meyers. The family will receive guests at their home immediately following the service at 711 Forest Glade Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23322. You can read her obituary here.
