Regent Announces New M.A. in Online Ministry Program for Fall 2021

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (June 14, 2021) – Regent University’s School of Divinity will launch a new Master of Arts in Online Ministry program in Fall 2021. This 36-credit-hour master’s degree, delivered entirely online, offers a high-impact structure that allows students to become rapidly equipped in the technical and practical aspects of online ministry.

“As a leader in online learning, Regent is offering a new online degree program to fulfill a specialized niche for ministry leaders at a strategic time for churches and Christian organizations globally,” said Corné J. Bekker, D. Litt. et Phil., dean for the School of Divinity. “The advent of online ministry has created unprecedented opportunities for the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus. Effective online ministry should not only be done with the highest degree of technical excellence, but also be Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, and faithful to the Word of God.”

Through this leading-edge program, students can gain the knowledge, skills, and ministerial training necessary to facilitate and advise in production and streaming, online discipleship, software and hardware for quality online experiences, and online fellowship and connection.

Regent’s School of Divinity developed this innovative program to support the unique criteria online ministers need to thrive in a virtual world. Bekker and his faculty note:

Online ministers must be:

  • Trained in cutting-edge technology and innovation.
  • Knowledgeable about the landscape, potential, and pitfalls of online platforms.
  • Equipped in theology, vocation, and practice of ministry.
  • Skilled in the reading, exegesis, and proclamation of God’s Word.
  • Formed spiritually and professionally to glorify God and serve His Church.

Bekker emphasized, “Like the invention of the printing press gave birth to the Reformation, the digital age and faithful online ministry hold the promise of a worldwide revival and a renewal back to God.”
