Mary 4 Mayor: Regent University Feature Film Wins Gold for Best Comedy

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (April 7, 2022) – Regent University School of Communication & the Arts is pleased to announce its second collaborative feature film—Mary 4 Mayor—has won Gold for Best Comedy.

The film was released in April 2021 and was nominated for two International Christian Visual Media (ICVM) Crown Awards for Best Comedy and Best Narrative Over $250,000. Winners were announced at ICVM’s gala awards ceremony during National Religious Broadcasters’ Christian Media Convention last month, which honors the best in Indie Christian film and television.

“Mary for Mary provided our film and theatre students an extraordinary professional experience. Working with Corbin Bernsen and his team at Home Theater Films was an unforgettable blessing,” said Dr. Peter Fraser, senior associate dean and director of the School of Communication & the Arts. “The many students who took part and our faculty are very proud that this collaborative effort has been rewarded the prestigious Gold Crown Award.”

The partnership provided more than 40 Regent students an opportunity to be involved in the production process and receive hands-on training alongside industry professionals, including key positions in cinematography, directing, set design, wardrobe, and hair and makeup. Additionally, several actors from Regent’s film and theatre department landed leading and supporting roles in the film.

Mary 4 Mayor, available on Amazon and Christian Cinema, takes a whimsical look at family dynamics and small-town politics. What begins for 18-year-old Mary Parson as a retaliation against her father—the mayor of their town who abandoned his family after suffering a midlife crisis—turns into full-scale war as Mary becomes the lone challenger to his re-election.

The film is distributed by BMG – Global. Visit www.gobmg.com to learn more.

ICVM is an international association of Christian writers, directors, producers, performers, and distributors with a common mission to produce and distribute visual media with excellence in the marketplace.
