Regent University School of Law Places 1st in Donation Competition

Regent University's law school students put the “fun” back in fundraising at their annual Dunk-a-Dean. Last week, Regent University School of Law (LAW) students, faculty and staff wrapped up their efforts to contribute to the 1.5 million pounds of food collected by the Virginia legal community in the 13th Annual Legal Food Frenzy.

“I am so proud of our students’ continuing demonstrated commitment to helping alleviate the hunger problem in our community,” said Chief Justice Mark Martin (Ret.), dean of Regent University School of Law.

The event is hosted by the Attorney General of Virginia, the Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Bar Association, and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.

For the fourth consecutive year, LAW secured victory in the “Virginia Law School” category and will receive the Attorney General’s Cup. The students helped amass more than any other Virginia law school — a whopping 598 pounds of food — competing with law firms, legal departments, government offices and law schools across the Commonwealth.

What’s more, last week LAW students put the “fun” back in fundraising at their annual Dunk-a-Dean, paying for shots to dunk LAW faculty in a dunk tank. Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division hosted the event.

Regent LAW also raised funds and collected food for the annual competition via a networking event sponsored in part by Pender & Coward in Virginia Beach.

“I could not be more proud of our students and our school for winning this award for the fourth year in a row,” said LAW’s Senior Associate Dean, Judge Marion Warren. “As a Christian law school, we should be the leader in serving the poor and underprivileged … I am so thankful that our students bought into the mission of serving the less fortunate.”
