Enrollment Status for Students Receiving VA Benefits

The Veteran Affairs (VA) training times indicated below are for individual enrollment periods only. Each session must be considered individually and cannot be combined with other enrollment periods for the assignment of a training time.

These training times are designed for VA educational benefits only and should not be used to calculate course loads for financial aid or outside scholarships.

For all other purposes such as confirmation of enrollments for lenders or insurance companies, enrollment status is determined by the entire semester not by individual enrollment periods.

For the fall term, Mandi is enrolled in three credit hours in Session A and three credit hours in Session B.

She will be considered 1/2 time to the VA for the entire semester because the VA training time for three credit hours in an 8-week course is 1/2 time.

If Mandi was using the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, she would not receive any Military Housing Allowance (MHA) as she must be enrolled greater than half time to receive MHA.

If she was using any other benefit, she would be paid according to her training time. Online and on-campus courses would not affect her payment.

For the spring term, Ryan is enrolled in three online credit hours in Session C, three online credit hours in Session D, and one 15-week on-campus course.

He will be considered 3/4 time to the VA for the entire semester because his 8-week and 15-week courses overlap. The VA will add the terms together, giving Ryan a status of 3/4 time for the semester.

If Ryan was using the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, he would earn 80% of residential Military Housing Allowance (MHA) for the entire semester. Because the 15-week course is on-campus and it overlaps both Session C and Session D, it satisfies the on-campus requirement for both terms. The VA rounds up training time to the nearest tenth.

If he was using any other benefit, he would be paid according to his training time. Online and on-campus courses would not affect his payment.

If she was using any other benefit, she would be paid according to her training time. Online and on-campus courses would not affect her payment.
