Mary Cate Guman, Ed.D.
Dr. Mary Cate Guman is an assistant professor and director of the M.A in Human Services and M.A. Pastoral Counseling within Regent’s Department of Counseling Ministries. She also serves as a pastoral counselor, assisting individuals and couples in the Hampton Roads area.
Guman believes every counselor, faculty member, and student can grow. In counseling, she focuses on helping individuals holistically through the integration of evidence-based practice and spiritual intervention. In teaching, she’s passionate about helping students grow in their people-helping context, including those in ministry and those in human services or counseling contexts.
Guman’s research interests include self-compassion and shame and how those constructs influence survivors of childhood trauma. Additional areas of interest include attachment and how the integration of psychology and spirituality can be implemented in ethical and effective counseling.
Guman and her husband serve at their local church and enjoy connecting with individuals in ministry and lay ministry contexts.
