Marcieanna Klaustermeyer, MFA

Bio

Marcieanna (Jasko) Klaustermeyer was born and raised in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. With a lifelong desire to work in the entertainment industry, and a heart to continue her studies with a strong, biblical foundation, she moved to Southern California to attend a Christian, liberal arts college.

An internship at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, with the Hollywood legend Garry Marshall, led Klaustermeyer to New York City after graduation to work on Broadway as an associate for Benjamin Mordecai (producer) and August Wilson (American playwright). Her Broadway and off-Broadway Playbill credits include King Hedley, Jitney and If It Was [sic] Easy. Several years later, she would have producing credit with Apples and Oranges Productions for the Tony Award-Winning New Musical, Memphis.

While in New York, Klaustermeyer began teaching theatre courses for a Christian institution, Nyack College. She was quickly promoted to interim chair of the theatre department, while also directing main stage productions, such as Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers, and teaching a full load of theatre courses for the undergraduate students. It was during this time she developed a secondary love for screenwriting. This led her to explore the craft with the University of Southern California’s Summer Production Workshop at Cine Citta Studios in Rome, Italy. She consequently enrolled and was accepted into Chapman University’s competitive film program at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. She studied screenwriting while earning her MFA in Producing – Television-Film. Thanks to another successful internship with The Mark Gordon Company on shows like Criminal Minds and Shonda Rhimes’s Grey’s Anatomy, she became a story analyst in Hollywood.

Klaustermeyer worked in TV literary (long-form) at International Creative Management (ICM). From one agency to the next, she quickly climbed the ranks and became a talent agent in commercial and voice-over at Special Artists Agency. However, negotiating deals for actors did not scratch the creative itch, so she jumped back into producing independent feature films, short films, commercials, and PSAs before landing an opportunity in creative development for producers Mary Parent and Cale Boyter at Paramount Pictures. She was assigned the scripts of several A-list writers to develop with directors and actors, including the adaptations of a few New York Times bestsellers. Her screen credits include big-budget films: Noah, Pacific Rim, Godzilla, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Just as Klaustermeyer always had her eyes set on the entertainment industry, she knew at a young age she was called to teach. While working in Hollywood and with her MFA, she developed and taught an Industry Insiders course as an adjunct at her alma mater. This was the beginning of a slow transition out of Hollywood.  She left the hustle and bustle of the film studio at the birth of her first child and was quickly recruited to run an independent production company, Rehab Entertainment, which included a film consulting gig in family entertainment for Lisa Henson at the Jim Henson Company.

When Klaustermeyer gave birth to her second child, she began consulting for Chaotic Good Studios, a transmedia company. She continued to teach and eventually set her sights on doing it full-time when her family decided to leave Hollywood. Her husband took a job as a Producer at a digital advertising agency in Norfolk, Virginia, and she joined the faculty at Regent University.
