Associate Professor, Media & Visual Arts
Professor David Xu is an associate professor at Regent University, College of Arts & Sciences, specializing in computer 3D animation and movie special effects. He earned his MFA in Computer Graphics & 3D Animation from the Pratt Institute in New York. He has served as a senior 3D animator in Sega, Japan; a senior CG special effector in Pacific Digital Image Inc., Hollywood; and as a professor of animation in several colleges and universities where he developed the 3D animation program and curriculum.
David has been an organizing committee member for the 5th International Conference & Expo on Computer Graphics & Animation, 2018, a committee member of the International Digital Media Arts Associates, and computer graphics organization Siggraph Electronic Theater, where he was recognized with an award for his work.
His special effect production and 3D animation credits include the movies Matrix and Star Trek, and television commercials for 7UP and AllState. In 2011, he published the book Mastering Maya: The Special Effects Handbook invited by Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House. He was also invited to speak at different international conferences in the field of computer graphics and lecture at several universities in Taiwan as visiting scholar.
Research interests include 3D modeling, 3D animation and special effects, and Christian-themed 3D movies. During his spare time, he loves to play the cello.
