Out of the Darkness

In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13 minutes, claiming more than 41,100 lives last year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute, with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in the US among individuals 15-64, the second leading cause of death among teens and young adults, and individuals ages 65 and older account for 16 percent of all suicide deaths. This is a public health issue that does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status. Walk to save lives!

Regent University is excited to participate in the Out of the Darkness Community Walk for the 5th consecutive year. We believe strongly in the cause of increasing awareness and promoting good mental health. In the 2012 walk Regent had more than 130 participants and was the largest represented school in attendance. This year we want to exceed that number and show our community how important this topic is to our students, employees, and families.

The 2015 Out of the Darkness Community Walk will take place on Saturday, September 12th, at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach. Registration for Regent participants will begin at 8:00am at the Regent University tent near the entrance of the park.
