DSL Course Map (Fall 2016 - Fall 2020)

DSL students must complete a total of 60 credit hours:

  • 42 credit hours of core courses
  • 12 credit hours of concentration elective courses
  • 6 credit hours of final doctoral project courses
  • Students have 7 years to complete the entire program

DSL students must attend two (2) required on-campus residencies:

BLOCK 1

LDSL 722 (3)
Students must begin BLOCK 1 with LDSL 722 and attend their 1st residency. Residency fee applies in addition to tuition.

Students who have completed their first residency course (LDSL 722) and have attended their first residency are permitted to begin taking concentration electives. Since concentration electives are offered less frequently, students are asked to plan accordingly throughout Blocks 1, 2, and 3. The COURSE ROTATION TABLE assists in scheduling course progression and registration.

DSL Concentrations

NOTE

  • All courses are conducted online and are 8-weeks long, with the exception of LDSL 861-862 and a few concentration elective courses, which are conducted as full-term (13 weeks courses).
  • At the beginning of the program, all students are required to take the UNIV LIB (0) or UNIV 500 (2) course. Students are automatically registered for UNIV 500 (2) instead of UNIV LIB (0) based on their admissions writing sample score. If posible, it is recommended - though not required - that UNIV LIB or UNIV 500 are completed prior to LDSL 722 and attending the first residency.

BLOCK 2

LDSL 727 (3)*
Students must begin BLOCK 2 with LDSL 727 and must have successfully completed LDSL 720, 721, 722, 723, 724, 725 before enrolling in LDSL 727 and attending their 2nd residency. Students may register for LDSL 727 concurrently with their last BLOCK 1 course. Residency fee applies in addition to tuition.

Final Doctoral Project Courses

LDSL 861 (3), LDSL 862 (3), LDSL 863 (1)

Students must have successfully completed all core courses before being eligible to register for final doctoral project courses. Students must register for continuing doctoral project credit – LDSL 863 (1) – after completion of all required 6 doctoral project credits until successful completion of the project.
